Location: Prudhoe Bay AK 99734
Duration: 12+ Months
Shift: 12.5 hr days and 3x3 rotation2 hour days, up to 21 days a month.
Summary:
Position Summary
The WCE Service Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of rotating and process equipment. This role supports safe and reliable operations by ensuring equipment is operating within design parameters and by mentoring less experienced personnel on proper operation and maintenance practices.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform routine and corrective maintenance on centrifuges, pumps, and associated equipment
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and implement effective solutions in the field
- Verify and adjust equipment set points to ensure proper operation
- Conduct inspections and identify potential failures before they occur
- Support commissioning and startup of equipment as needed
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies
- Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to other employees
Technical Skills & Knowledge
Centrifuges
- Strong working knowledge of centrifuge operation and components
- Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and control adjustments
- Bearing inspection and replacement
- Preventive maintenance and condition monitoring
- Troubleshooting vibration, imbalance, and performance issues
- Ability to correct operating set points and optimize performance
- Capable of training operators and other technicians on proper operation and care
Centrifugal Pumps
- Mechanical seal installation and replacement
- Bearing and shaft replacement
- Setting and adjusting impeller and stuffing box clearances
- Performing routine maintenance and inspections
- Diagnosing flow, pressure, and vibration issues
- Alignment and performance verification
Positive Displacement Pumps
- Rebuilding fluid ends
- Setting stator and rotor clearances correctly
- Proper installation and adjustment of packing glands
- Performing standard maintenance and inspections
- Troubleshooting pressure, flow, and wear-related issues
Grinding Mill Equipment
- Working knowledge of grinding mill operation and system components (e.g., ball mills, SAG mills, or vertical mills as applicable)
- Inspection and replacement of liners, lifters, and wear components
- Bearing inspection, lubrication, and replacement
- Gear and pinion inspection, alignment, and maintenance
- Monitoring and adjusting mill operating parameters (feed rate, speed, load, discharge)
- Troubleshooting issues such as vibration, overheating, abnormal noise, and poor grind performance
- Performing routine maintenance, including lubrication systems and drive components
- Understanding of mill start-up and shutdown procedures
- Ability to identify and correct process upsets affecting mill performance
- Training operators and technicians on proper mill operation, maintenance, and safety practices
Filtration Press Vans
- Operation, setup, and maintenance of mobile filtration press systems (press vans)
- Inspecting and replacing filter cloths, plates, and seals
- Monitoring pressure, flow rates, and cycle times to ensure efficient dewatering performance
- Troubleshooting common issues such as plugging, uneven cake buildup, hydraulic faults, and leaks
- Performing routine maintenance on hydraulic systems, pumps, and control components
- Ensuring proper startup, shutdown, and cleaning procedures are followed
- Verifying system integrity and making adjustments to optimize filtration efficiency
- Training operators and support personnel on safe and effective use of filtration press equipment
Parts & Inventory Management
- Tracking and maintaining accurate inventory levels for parts, tools, and consumables
- Identifying and ordering replacement parts to support maintenance and minimize downtime
- Verifying parts received and ensuring proper storage and organization
- Maintaining records of parts usage and equipment history
- Coordinating with procurement and operations to ensure critical spares are available
- Identifying long-lead or critical components and flagging shortages proactively
Installation & Commissioning
- Installing new equipment including centrifuges, pumps, grinding mills, and filtration systems
- Verifying proper assembly, alignment, and system integration during installation
- Supporting startup and commissioning activities to ensure equipment operates within design parameters
- Setting and validating system controls, set points, and instrumentation
- Performing operational checks and troubleshooting issues during initial startup
- Coordinating with operations and engineering teams to confirm system readiness
- Documenting commissioning activities, findings, and performance results
- Training operators and maintenance personnel on proper startup, operation, and shutdown procedures

The Service Technician Mechanical is responsible for providing safe, efficient and reliable product and service delivery to customers, and identify opportunities for improvement. The Service Technician Mechanical plans and executes non-Technology Lifecycle Management maintenance activities for a designated location. This person ensures equipment is delivered on time and according to operational demands, and maintains shop and field equipment. * Participate in pre-job and toolbox meetings with crew members. * Maintain equipment according to procedures, reporting problems or deviations. * Operate equipment according to procedures, competency levels and job requirement. * Identify opportunities to improve the service delivery process. * Participate in failure investigations when relevant.
