Job Description

Here is the Role:

We are seeking an Independent Contractor specializing in SharePoint Online architecture, governance, and user experience design. This engagement focuses on strengthening JSPC's internal Microsoft 365 SharePoint environment.

This is a project-based engagement estimated at 3 months or approximately 480 hours. We are open to part-time or full-time availability. Work is fully remote.

The contractor will assess our current SharePoint environment, establish governance and data hygiene standards, and redesign site architecture and pages to improve usability, security, and adoption across JSPC. This role requires strong technical expertise, structured thinking, and the ability to execute independently.

This engagement may include limited follow-on support on an as-needed basis after the initial project period.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management, Business Technology, or a related field preferred.

Equivalent professional experience will be considered.

Your Responsibilities:

Phase 1: Foundation and Roadmap

  • Audit the current SharePoint Online environment.
  • Assess site architecture, security groups, permission structures, and inheritance models.
  • Standardize and document security group structures.
  • Identify and remediate orphaned users, inactive pages, and legacy artifacts.
  • Clean up broken or overly complex permission inheritance.
  • Establish governance processes for onboarding and offboarding users.
  • Develop a clear archiving and records management framework.
  • Provide a forward-looking roadmap with prioritized recommendations.

Phase 2: Data Readiness and Structure

  • Create a structured knowledge base architecture.
    • Identify and remove duplicate, outdated, and redundant documents.
  • Define and implement standards for data hygiene and lifecycle management.
  • Establish metadata standards and naming conventions.
  • Develop guidance to support long-term content organization and sustainability.

Phase 3: Design and User Experience

  • Redesign SharePoint pages and layouts to improve clarity and engagement.
  • Improve navigation, site hierarchy, and search usability.
  • Develop user-friendly landing pages and dashboards.
  • Strengthen branding consistency across sites.
  • Enhance overall usability to drive adoption across JSPC.
  • Provide documentation and guidance to sustain improvements.

Skillset Requirements:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with SharePoint Online architecture and governance.
  • Proven experience restructuring complex SharePoint environments.
  • Strong understanding of security groups, permission inheritance, and M365 compliance best practices.
  • Experience implementing governance frameworks and lifecycle management standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to design intuitive, modern SharePoint user experiences.
  • Strong documentation skills and ability to produce actionable roadmaps.
  • Ability to work independently and manage scope within defined timelines
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Extra Credit:

  • Microsoft Certifications such as MS-600, PL-200, PL-400, or related M365 certifications.
  • Experience improving intranet adoption and user engagement.
  • Consulting experience in structured project environments.

Engagement Structure:

  • Independent contractor engagement.
    • 1099 or C2C arrangements accepted.
  • Remote work environment.
  • Estimated duration: 3 months, approximately 480 hours.
  • Flexible schedule, part-time or full-time engagement considered.
  • Potential for limited follow-on project work as needed.
