Job Description

At McFarlane Aviation, we’ve spent over 50 years building a reputation for quality, reliability, and doing things the right way. Through our McFarlane Alaska division, we continue that commitment by supporting the pilots, operators, and aviation communities who rely on dependable aircraft and equipment in some of the harshest flying environments in the world.

In Alaska, aviation is more than transportation, it’s a critical part of everyday life. From remote access and backcountry operations to commercial and recreational flying, the products we manufacture help keep aircraft operating safely and reliably where performance matters most.

We are currently seeking an entry level Shop Hand to join our Palmer manufacturing team. This role is hands-on and requires a detail oriented individual. The ideal candidate takes pride in craftsmanship, works with precision, and values producing quality work that directly supports the aviation community.

Position Description: Shop Hand

Position Summary: The Shop Hand supports daily operations by assisting with material handling, basic production tasks, shop organization, and facility housekeeping. Additional responsibilities include part marking, tagging, removing ink from parts prior to powder coating, and supporting light assembly work as needed. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, and eager to learn in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

•* Cut parts from material sheets and deburr components using a bench grinder (primary responsibility).

•* Perform part marking, tagging, double-tagging, and remove ink from parts prior to powder coating.

•* Assist with light assembly and basic production support as needed.

•* Maintain organized work areas and support general shop tasks (material prep, staging parts, stocking workstations).

•* Move materials and support shipping/receiving activities as directed.

•* Safely operate basic shop equipment (hand tools, pallet jacks, carts, etc.).

•* Follow all safety protocols and standard operating procedures.

•* Assist with general production tasks as needed

Experience and Skills:

•* Experience or interest in hands-on mechanical or assembly work; experience in manufacturing or warehouse a plus.

•* Reliable and punctual with strong work ethic.

•* Willingness to learn and take direction from supervisors.

•* Commitment to safety and teamwork.

Education Requirements

•* High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required

Physical Requirements

•* Ability to climb ladders, reach overhead, climb stairs multiple times a day and lift up to 50 lbs.

•* Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work on feet for extended periods.

•* Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
