Job Title: Sign Language Interpreter 2026-2027Location: Fayetteville, NC 28306Schedule: Full-time, school-basedEmployment Type: ContractPay Rate: Starting at $35/hour (dependent on experience)Position OverviewBirch Agency is seeking a skilled and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to support students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a school-based setting in Fayetteville, North Carolina. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by ensuring students have full access to classroom instruction, school activities, and educational services.The ideal candidate will be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and passionate about creating an inclusive educational environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.Key Responsibilities
- Provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for students during classroom instruction, school activities, meetings, and related educational settings.
- Interpret lectures, discussions, classroom activities, assemblies, and other school-related events.
- Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, peers, administrators, and support staff.
- Adapt interpretation methods to meet the unique communication needs and learning styles of students.
- Support student participation in both academic and social settings throughout the school day.
- Prepare and review instructional content to ensure accurate and effective interpretation.
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to support student success.
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical standards.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) required.
- Associate's degree in interpreting, deaf education, or a related field preferred.
- Educational interpreting experience preferred.
- EIPA score, RID certification, or other relevant interpreting credentials preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of educational terminology and school-based practices preferred.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary educational team.
- School-based setting serving students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
