Job Description
Under minimal supervision, the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) will oversee safety protocols and health standards for our custodial contract operations. As the SSHO, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, implementing best practices, and fostering a safety culture among our staff adhering to contractual requirements and company standards. This position is responsible for conducting employee safety training and consulting with project supervisors to develop safe work plans for all phases and tasks. The SSHO will also be responsible for all administrative tasks related to the contract including conducting, completing, and accurately filling all recurring and annual safety reports.
Job Skills
- Develop and implement safety policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards
- Collaborate with site managers and supervisors to address safety concerns and provide recommendations for corrective actions
- Organize and conduct safety training sessions for staff on topics such as proper chemical handling, equipment safety, and emergency procedures
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; prepare detailed reports and recommend preventive measures
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, and incidents
- Stay updated on changes in safety regulations and industry best practices; implement necessary changes to ensure continuous improvement
- Act as the primary or alternate point of contact for safety-related communications and inquiries from both internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies
- Promote a safety-conscious culture by encouraging open communication and participation in safety initiatives among all employees
- May be required to prepare project Safety Plans and/or Activity Hazard Analysis for each definable feature of work on the project
Working Conditions:
- Frequent exposure to heat, sun for extended periods of time.
- Possible exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, and various infectious diseases.
- Exposure to wildlife.
- Move and lift between 25-50+ lbs.
- Possible exposure to uncomfortable noise levels and vibration of the body or extremities.
