Job Summary

The Field Safety Specialist (FSS) serves as Ceco’s senior field-level safety representative, providing leadership, authority, and oversight across assigned projects while representing the company to customers, general contractors, and third parties. This role bridges the gap between Site Safety Coordinators and management-level safety positions by expanding project responsibility, field leadership, and independent decision-making authority.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides daily field leadership for Site Safety Coordinators (SSCs), ensuring aligned execution of safety expectations, reporting standards, and customer‑interface practices.
  • Serves as the lead field safety resource on complex projects or sites with multiple safety personnel, implementing strategies set by the Regional or Area Safety Manager (RSM/ASM).
  • Supports the development of SSCs through coaching, mentoring, training support, and performance feedback to the RSM/ASM.
  • Acts as the field-level safety liaison with customers, general contractors, inspectors, and third‑party consultants when the RSM/ASM is not present and represents Ceco in safety‑related discussions as needed.
  • Participates in customer safety activities such as all‑trades walks, safety assessments, coordination meetings, and incident reviews.
  • Ensures consistent implementation of Ceco and customer safety programs by proactively identifying and mitigating hazards, by coordinating with project management, and leadership to address unsafe conditions.
  • May oversee multiple projects that do not require a dedicated full-time company safety representative.
  • Delivers site‑specific safety orientations and ongoing training for staff and craft workers, including support for mentor selection for new employees.
  • Participates in and reinforces daily safety routines, such as morning huddles and stretch‑and‑flex programs.
  • Conducts incident and near‑miss investigations, completes required documentation, and communicates findings to project leadership and the RSM/ASM, supporting confidential investigations as needed.
  • Completes timely safety inspections and reports, ensuring follow‑up and closure of corrective actions.
  • Performs special projects and other assigned duties to support safety operations and organizational needs.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in safety-related work or education, or equivalent experience of on‑site construction Environmental Health & Safety responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, interface effectively with customers, and coordinate safety efforts across multiple work areas or projects.
  • Proven ability to influence and guide others in safe work practices, including strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.
  • General knowledge of Loss Control and Claims Management, gained through hands-on experience.
  • Applied knowledge of construction safety rules and relevant OSHA requirements and regulations including, OSHA Part 1926 Safety requirements, NEC, NFPA and ANSI standards for construction.
  • Intermediate PC skills with experience in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and Outlook are required.
