Job Description

ABOUT THE ONE CAMPAIGN

ONE is a global, nonpartisan organization fighting for a more just world by demanding the investments needed to create economic opportunities and healthier lives in Africa. We do this by deploying trusted and dynamic advocacy that leverages hard-hitting data, credible grassroots activism, creative political engagement, and strategic partnerships. We use all this to influence decision-makers to take action and tackle the world’s biggest challenges. Read more at www.one.org.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Social Media and Design Coordinator (North America) supports ONE's North America social media engagement strategy, encompassing high-profile campaigns in Canada and the United States. Reporting to the Media Relations Manager, North America Advocacy, the Coordinator works closely with communications colleagues across North America, Europe, and Africa, and is supported by staff throughout the organization as required.

This is a build moment for the North America team. We are standing up a new editorial function, and developing a rapid-response capability that turns breaking policy news into content within hours. You will help shape how that work reaches audiences rather than simply pushing it out the door, and you will learn fast-turnaround production alongside colleagues who do it under real deadlines.

Based in Ottawa or Washington DC, you bring a perspective to a team that works across both markets. You understand that a message built for a specific audience does not automatically across the border, and you can say specifically what needs to change. Ideally, you draft comfortably in French and English. You know what performs natively on each platform, and you can tell the difference between content that looks polished and content that actually moves people to act.

We are looking for someone who brings ideas rather than waits for direction, and who is willing to make the case for a different approach when the platform calls for it. You will get direct feedback on your work, and you are expected to offer it in return. You should have a demonstrable interest in development issues and African current affairs, the ability to communicate complex issues concisely, and real care for the detail.

This is a Full-Time opportunity reporting directly to the Media Relations Manager, and is based in the Ottawa or Washington DC areas.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL

  • Draft, schedule, and publish social media content (ideally in French and English) across ONE's North America channels, adapting messaging for Canadian and US audiences rather than duplicating it across both
  • Design and format campaign materials, documents, and social assets in line with ONE's brand guidelines
  • Contribute to rapid-response content alongside the Content Producer and the Media Relations Manager, turning breaking policy developments into publishable assets on short timelines
  • Draft social copy that carries a clear advocacy ask, connecting ONE's campaigns to specific actions audiences can take
  • Monitor platform trends and propose native formats suited to each channel, bringing ideas forward rather than waiting for direction
  • Support ONE's owned channels, including the North America podcast and web content, and repurpose material across platforms and markets so that no asset is used only once
  • Monitor comments and community engagement, flagging risks early and surfacing opportunities for the team to respond
  • Track and report social media performance, identifying trends and translating metrics into recommendations for future content
  • Develop ideas for social and news-media-friendly campaign moments and support their implementation
  • Collaborate with communications colleagues in Europe and Africa, sharing North America content for wider use and adapting global material for North American audiences
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned
