Social Media Specialist

Overview

The Social Media Specialist is a pivotal member of the CandleScience marketing team, entrusted with daily ownership of our social media presence and digital community engagement. This role has expanded beyond execution to include strategic content planning, active community management, and platform growth—particularly on TikTok and Instagram. The Specialist embodies our brand voice, nurtures authentic connections within the crafting community, and brings creative energy to a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manages and publishes daily content across TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, focusing on trend-driven, engaging posts that elevate brand awareness and community interaction
• Develops, plans, and maintains the monthly content calendar in alignment with overall marketing initiatives, ensuring consistent and timely messaging
• Monitors social media analytics to evaluate performance and inform ongoing content strategy adjustments
• Responds to community comments, messages, and inquiries, providing knowledgeable support related to candle making, fragrance selection, and DIY projects while maintaining brand consistency
• Moderates social platforms to uphold community standards and protect the brand’s reputation
• Collaborates with cross-functional teams—including video production, product, and email marketing—to synchronize messaging and support campaign launches
• Engages with creators and influencers, identifying collaboration opportunities that enhance CandleScience’s presence and credibility in the crafting space
• Creates and designs visual content such as social graphics, Instagram Stories, Reels covers, and short-form videos using design tools, ensuring alignment with brand aesthetics
• Represents the brand on camera as needed, delivering a relatable and confident presence that resonates with the audience
• Maintains and evolves the brand’s digital content identity by contributing to content themes and voice development, staying current with social media best practices and emerging trends
• Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or 1–3 years of experience in social media management, digital content creation, or community engagement.
• Proven ability or strong willingness to develop a confident, engaging on-camera presence.
• Demonstrated expertise with social media platforms, particularly TikTok and Instagram, including experience growing or managing accounts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Creative aptitude with basic graphic design skills using tools like Canva or Adobe Express.
• Genuine interest in crafting, candle making, soap making, or related DIY activities.
• Highly organized self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid role based in the Raleigh-Durham area, with team members typically working 2–3 days per week onsite and the remainder remote. The position involves significant desk time for research, editing, writing, and collaboration, as well as regular team meetings, video calls, and in-person creative sessions. The role also requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, the ability to lift up to 20+ pounds, and occasional work on a ladder as needed.
