Job Description

What You'll Do:

The Bureau of Regulatory Operations at the Ohio Department of Health is seeking to fill TWO Social Services Licensing Specialist vacancies that play a vital role in ensuring healthcare facilities meet state and federal licensing and certification standards. Duties include:

  • Review and process licensure applications, renewals, ownership changes, and other regulatory requests for healthcare facilities and service providers.
  • Interpret and apply state and federal laws, regulations and licensing standards to ensure compliance and eligibility.
  • Conduct detailed research, analysis, and evaluation of applications, supporting documentation and facility records.
  • Coordinate with healthcare providers, government agencies, inspectors, and stakeholders throughout the licensing and certification process.
  • Manage application records and maintain accurate information within multiple regulatory databases and tracking systems.
  • Prepare licenses, certifications, approval letters, and other official correspondence.
  • Monitor licensing activities, certification requirements, inspections and regulatory deadlines to ensure timely processing.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to applicants, facility operators, and the public regarding licensing requirements and procedures.
  • Collaborate with state and federal partners, including Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the State Fire Marshal and other regulatory agencies.
  • Track and support Medicare and Medicaid certification acitivities, including enrollment applications and provider updates.
  • Generate reports, maintain electronic records and ensure data accuracy across multiple systems.
  • Assist with hearings, licensing conferences, compliance reviews and regulatory investigations, as needed.

Position Qualifications:

3 college level courses in business, social service, public health, or related field AND 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in governmental laws & licensing standards of long term care &/or non-long term care facilities.

OR

Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

  • Associates or advanced degree in business, social service or public health

  • Experience working with databases (e.g., Automated Survey Processing Environment and Certification and Licensure System)

  • Experience providing consultation and/or technical assistance to health care facilities/providers

  • Experience reviewing applications for eligibility and/or compliance

  • Experience assisting or independently preparing and providing testimony for judicial hearings

  • Experience developing and presenting trainings and/or public speaking

  • Experience responding to inquiries via email and telephone
