Outpatient Neuro Oncology/ MGH Boston

40 hours/ LCSW/ LICSW

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic individual with strong clinical, collaborative, and consultation skills to join our oncology team. This outpatient role will provide clinical social work services to patients with brain tumors as part of the Neuro-Oncology Team at Massachusetts General Hospital and MGB Cancer Institute.

The ideal candidate will be proficient in conducting psychosocial assessments and experienced in short-term counseling, group facilitation, crisis intervention, and interprofessional collaboration. They will also have experience working with patients and families presenting with a wide range of mental health and psychosocial concerns including anxiety and depression, adjustment and coping, loss and bereavement, complex family dynamics, substance use disorder and trauma. The role includes individual counseling, some couples and family support work, facilitation of support groups, and resource-based referrals. Excellent clinical, communication, and documentation skills are a necessity.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's of Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program required.

  • Relevant clinical experience preferred.

Clinical Social Worker I:

Requires current Massachusetts Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Clinical experience in medical setting 0-1 year required

Clinical Social Worker II:

Requires current Massachusetts Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)

Clinical Experience in a medical setting 2-3 years required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates proficient clinical judgment and application of professional values and ethics. Integration of prior clinical experience into current practice.

  • Demonstrates proficiency to formulate assessment of risks, crisis intervention, psychosocial assessments, treatment plans, and the documentation of both in a timely manner.

  • Demonstrates sound clinical judgment and innovation in advocating for clients while maintaining professional boundaries.

  • Demonstrates proficient working knowledge of internal and external resources and refers appropriately.

  • Provides a range of evidence-based interventions.

  • Ability to advocate, coordinate, and continuously communicate with treatment plans with patients, family and the interdisciplinary team.

  • Incorporates cultural competencies.

  • If appropriate, utilizes supervision and consultation regularly and appropriately.

  • Actively seeks assistance with complex cases and situations in a timely manner.

  • Engages in quality improvement projects, uses data to measure progress.

  • Facilitate groups.

  • Knowledge, understanding and ability to negotiate and work in a complex organization.

  • Demonstrate capacity to effectively communicate findings with a broader audience.
