As New York City's only charter high school that is both a transfer school and a fully embedded community school in partnership with The Door, Broome Street Academy Charter High School (BSA) serves over-age, under-credited students who deserve rigorous academic pathways alongside comprehensive wraparound support.

Our Social Workers will be a part of a dedicated team focused on systems that are coherent, urgent, and measurable. BSA's Social Workers will have the opportunity to:

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervision and Training: Provide individual and group clinical supervision to a dedicated team of social workers. Monitor and improve the quality of social work services through ongoing case consultation, documentation review, comprehensive data collection and analysis, and coordination with school staff and community partners.
  • Deliver High-Quality Counseling Services: Provide individual and group counseling for students in grades 9-12, including mandated counseling services for students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Social Workers will utilize evidence-based and data-driven interventions to support students with achieving personal goals and addressing social, emotional, behavioral and other challenges. Social Workers will maintain a person-centered, strengths-based, and anti-oppressive approach.
  • Conduct Assessments & Case Management: Administer screeners and assessments to inform diagnosis, treatment, goals, and interventions for students. Maintain progress notes, complete IEP counseling reports, conduct classroom observations, and coordinate referrals.
  • Collaborate with Community Members: Communicate and meet regularly with school staff, families, and other key stakeholders to address the individual academic and social-emotional needs of students. Participate in IEP meetings, child study team meetings, and case conferences with other mental health providers or stakeholders, including the psychiatry team at The Door.
  • Provide Crisis Intervention: Serve as a frontline crisis responder by addressing mental health and behavioral crises. Coordinate closely with the Social Work Team, the Student Culture Team and administrators as needed. Crisis intervention may include de-escalation, student mediations, suicide and homicide risk assessment, and the creation and maintenance of safety plans.
  • Schoolwide Engagement: Participate in regular schoolwide meetings and professional development opportunities. Attend after-school activities and chaperone student trips. Participate in the planning and implementation of: The Door and BSA's annual mental health wellness day, monthly school assemblies, other social-emotional learning initiatives such as support groups, and when applicable, professional development for staff.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking a compassionate, highly skilled social worker who is ready to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of adolescent development, trauma-informed care, and crisis intervention.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) required.

Experience & Skills:

  • 4+ years of clinical experience in mental health, school settings preferred.
  • Strong ability to engage in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and trauma-informed care practices.
  • Experience working with adolescents from diverse backgrounds, including students in foster care, experiencing homelessness, or facing systemic barriers.
  • Familiarity with restorative justice practices, special education support (IEPs), and mandated counseling is highly valued.
  • Excellent communication, advocacy, and collaboration skills, with a passion for working in a team-driven, student-centered environment.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates preferred.
