Job Description
Job Description
Offstream is looking for a talented software engineer with UX design experience to join our growing engineering team. You will be the 4th engineer to join the software side of the house. Today Offstream’s engineering is focused primarily on building web applications but we are expanding into physical hardware and real world infrastructure to meet our goals of rapidly growing the company while bolstering the growing carbon removal market. This role will have a great opportunity to make a massive impact on the user facing experience of the Offstream product.
What you will do
Collaborate with the engineering team and other team members to understand product requirements and come up with effective technical solutions to build a great product for our customers
Spend 20% of your time designing user flows, creating mockups, and evangelizing UX best practices across the engineering team and company
Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and sprint planning/retrospectives
Mentor and share knowledge with other engineers as the team grows
What you will bring
(If you don't meet all of these requirements, you should still apply. We want to find high-slope individuals, so if you can quickly grow into this profile we'd love to hear from you)
2-5 years of software engineering experience, preferably at early stage startups, working with React
Some familiarity with the other parts of Offstream's tech stack - Typescript, Next.js, GraphQL, and postgresql
Demonstrable design/UX experience either from a past career in design or product management, or a few years of front end focused software development
Familiarity with design software tools like Figma
BS/MS in Computer Science or related field
Passion for startups
Strong communication and collaboration skills
What it’s like to work as an engineer at Offstream
We work in two week sprints and use all of the standard tooling (github, Asana, Slack, etc…)
We have a culture of blameless incidents. No engineer is perfect. Sometimes mistakes are made, bugs go into production, and users experience crashes. Rather than pointing fingers, we fix mistakes, and then strive to build processes that prevent similar errors from cropping up in the future
We believe that applying steady effort over a long period of time will result in incredible progress
What we offer
Competitive salary and equity ($115-135k depending on qualifications and experience)
A full suite of benefits
Unlimited PTO with a minimum of 2 weeks off per year + all federal holidays and a company shut down for the week between Christmas and New Years
Location
Denver, CO - we work in an office near union station 3 days per week
About the interview
Intro call with Zach: This will be a chance to learn about Offstream in more detail - the mission and goals of the company, and some more detailed info on the tech stack + upcoming projects and work, along with the opportunity to ask questions about anything you would like to know in advance of going through the interview process and eventually joining the team
Technical screen: This will be an automated assessment meant to test your front end facing software development skills. It takes less than 1 hour and should be simple to complete for those with prior professional React experience
2nd technical interview: This will be an interview focused on solving a UX problem where you will be presented with a customer issue that needs to be solved. We will walk through the process of uncovering feature requirements, designing a solution, and implementing it
Team interview: Meet with Zach and Varsha to talk about your background, professional experience, and motivations for joining an early-stage climate tech startup.
