Software Engineer I

Position Overview: 

As a Software Engineer I, you will contribute to building and improving our SaaS platform using a modern stack centered around Laravel (PHP). You will help develop secure, scalable, and maintainable backend services and APIs that directly impact our customers. In this role, you will not only build new features, but also play an active role in maintaining product quality by investigating issues, fixing bugs, and supporting the resolution of customer-reported problems. This gives you direct exposure to real-world usage of the product and helps you develop strong debugging and problem-solving skills. You'll be part of architectural discussions, actively contribute to sprints, and gain exposure to the full product lifecycle. This role is perfect for someone early in their engineering journey who is eager to grow, experiment, and make a meaningful impact from day one, including exploring how AI tools can enhance development workflows and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the development of features and APIs within our Laravel applications
• Take ownership of smaller user stories with guidance from more senior engineers
• Investigate, reproduce, and fix bugs reported by users or internal teams
• Support the customer support team by helping analyse and resolve technical issues
• Monitor and improve application stability and reliability
• Follow engineering best practices (code quality, testing, CI/CD)
• Use AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) to support coding, debugging, and learning while critically validating outputs
• Build an understanding of how your work impacts system behaviour and the end-user experience

Required Experience/Skills:

• 0-3 years of hands-on software development in an agile environment
• Experience with PHP, TALL stack (Tailwind CSS, Alpine.js, Laravel, Livewire) is a must
• Understanding of MySQL / MariaDB (relational databases), AWS cloud infrastructure, REST APIs and system integrations
• Familiarity with Git and version control workflows
• Exposure to front-end technologies (e.g., Vue, React, or Blade)
• Basic knowledge of debugging techniques and willingness to work on bug fixing
• Experience with Docker or containerised environments is a plus

AI & Growth Mindset

• Familiar with AI concepts such as large language models and generative AI
• Awareness of tools like ChatGPT or GitHub Copilot and their general use
• Understands that AI-generated outputs must be validated and are not always correct
• Willing to use AI tools to support debugging, issue analysis, and learning new concepts
• Aware of privacy and security considerations when using AI tools (e.g., not sharing sensitive data)

• This is an on-site / hybrid role based in Amsterdam. Candidates must already be residing in the Netherlands
