The Software Engineering Director leads the technology development organization for Fleet products within Corporate Payment Systems (CPS). Fleet solutions are a closed‑loop credit card processing and fleet management platform serving corporate and government customers, enabling management of fuel, vehicle maintenance, and fleet operations.

This role serves as the senior technology leader for Fleet, accountable for engineering strategy, delivery, modernization, and culture. The Director partners closely with Fleet business and product leaders to translate business strategy into scalable, secure, and resilient technology solutions, balancing modernization initiatives with the operational rigor required for mission‑critical payment platforms.

The Fleet engineering organization consists of multiple agile scrum teams supporting a hybrid technology stack, including modern front‑end and backend platforms (e.g., React, Java, APIs, microservices) alongside legacy systems, with an active focus on platform modernization, cloud adoption, and AI‑assisted engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple Fleet‑aligned engineering teams operating in a modern product operating model, in close partnership with product management, design, and business stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary technology leader for Fleet products, translating business strategy into scalable technical solutions across front‑end, backend, and legacy platforms.
  • Drive modernization of Fleet systems, including React‑based user experiences, Java services, APIs, and microservices, while responsibly managing and evolving legacy platforms.
  • Embed AI‑assisted engineering practices across the software development lifecycle (e.g., coding, testing, refactoring, documentation, and incident analysis).
  • Ensure engineering delivery meets reliability, performance, security, and regulatory expectations appropriate for payments and fleet platforms.
  • Align engineering execution to measurable business outcomes using OKRs, delivery metrics, and continuous feedback loops.
  • Develop and coach engineering leaders, strengthening leadership capability, technical judgment, and modern ways of working.
  • Foster an inclusive, high‑trust engineering culture emphasizing ownership, continuous learning, and engineering excellence.
  • Model responsible AI usage aligned to enterprise security, risk, compliance, and ethical standards.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Eight (8) or more years of relevant software engineering experience
  • Five (5) or more years of experience leading a software engineering team

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience leading multiple software engineering teams supporting complex, customer‑facing platforms.
  • Strong technical foundation with hands‑on familiarity across Java‑based services, APIs, microservices, and modern web frameworks (e.g., React).
  • Demonstrated success operating and modernizing hybrid environments that include both modern and legacy platforms, while maintaining reliability and customer trust.
  • Experience working within a product operating model, enabling empowered teams and outcome‑driven delivery.
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, including leading leaders and influencing across organizational boundaries.
  • Experience supporting payments, card processing, or other large‑scale, regulated platforms.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and AI‑assisted engineering tools to improve delivery and quality.
