Job Description

Latitude AI (lat.ai) develops automated driving technologies, including L3, for Ford vehicles at scale. We're driven by the opportunity to reimagine what it's like to drive and make travel safer, less stressful, and more enjoyable for everyone.

When you join the Latitude team, you'll work alongside leading experts across machine learning and robotics, cloud platforms, mapping, sensors and compute systems, test operations, systems and safety engineering - all dedicated to making a real, positive impact on the driving experience for millions of people.

As a Ford Motor Company subsidiary, we operate independently to develop automated driving technology at the speed of a technology startup. Latitude is headquartered in Pittsburgh with engineering centers in Dearborn, Mich., and Palo Alto, Calif.

Meet the team:

Every board has a lifecycle: it's manufactured, provisioned, updated repeatedly in the field, and eventually retired, and it needs to remain trustworthy at every stage. The Security & Lifecycle team owns the platform's ability to manage that lifecycle end to end. This starts at manufacturing, provisioning cryptographic keys and building the images and tooling used to bring devices into service. It continues through the vehicle's life, safely updating software in the field, rotating and revoking keys as needed, and verifying that any code loaded onto the platform is authentic. Underneath all of this, the team owns the nonvolatile memory and storage infrastructure that makes persistence possible, including low-level storage drivers and the memory map that allocates space across every storage unit on the platform. The team collaborates closely with platform, safety, and manufacturing engineering teams, as well as with external silicon and tooling partners.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and grow a team of engineers responsible for nonvolatile memory management, software update workflows, low-level storage drivers, and platform security
  • Set technical direction for how software updates are packaged, validated, and safely applied to vehicles in the field
  • Guide the design and maintenance of low-level storage drivers and nonvolatile memory management strategies across the compute platform
  • Own the memory map for the platform, allocating space across different memory units and nonvolatile storage for all consuming teams
  • Oversee trusted firmware implementation and the full key lifecycle, including provisioning at manufacturing, in-field rotation, and revocation, to ensure a secure boot chain and verify the authenticity of code running on the platform
  • Direct the development of manufacturing image creation and tooling used to provision devices during production
  • Partner with systems safety and security engineering to ensure update, storage, and key management workflows meet automotive safety and security requirements
  • Work with silicon and tooling partners to resolve low-level integration issues related to storage, firmware, and provisioning
  • Manage hiring, performance, and career development for the team

What you'll need to succeed:

  • This is a hands-on management role! Strong architectural, coding, and management skills are a must as you work in all 3
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or a related field and 7+ years of relevant experience (or Master's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, or PhD and 2+ years of relevant experience)
  • Significant experience in embedded systems software development, with strong hands-on C++ programming experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in an engineering management or technical leadership role
  • Deep knowledge of nonvolatile memory technologies and low-level storage driver development
  • Experience with software update systems, including packaging, validation, and safe rollout/rollback strategies
  • Experience with trusted firmware (e.g., ARM Trusted Firmware) and secure boot concepts
  • Experience with cryptographic key management practices, including key provisioning, rotation, and revocation in embedded systems
  • Strong understanding of low-level systems programming concepts, including memory layout, linker scripts, and bootloaders
  • Familiarity with automotive or other safety-critical software development practices (e.g., ISO 26262, or similar)
  • Experience managing engineering teams, including hiring and performance management

Nice to have:

  • Experience with manufacturing provisioning tooling and image creation workflows
  • Experience allocating and managing memory maps across multiple storage units on an embedded platform
  • Experience with hardware security modules (HSMs) or secure elements
  • Familiarity with A/B or dual-bank update schemes for safe rollback
  • Prior experience in autonomous driving or ADAS software
  • Experience with Bazel build system

What we offer you:

  • Competitive compensation packages
  • High-quality individual and family medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Health savings account with available employer match
  • Employer-matched 401(k) retirement plan with immediate vesting
  • Employer-paid group term life insurance and the option to elect voluntary life insurance
  • Paid parental leave
  • Paid medical leave
  • Unlimited vacation
  • 15 paid holidays
  • Daily lunches, snacks, and beverages available in all office locations
  • Pre-tax spending accounts for healthcare and dependent care expenses
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Monthly wellness stipend
  • Adoption/Surrogacy support program
  • Backup child and elder care program
  • Professional development reimbursement
  • Employee assistance program
  • Discounted programs that include legal services, identity theft protection, pet insurance, and more
  • Company and team bonding outlets: employee resource groups, quarterly team activity stipend, and wellness initiatives
