Job Description

As a Solutions Architect with OMES you will enjoy:

Position Summary

The Solutions Architect supports IT Enterprise Governance by translating complex business requirements into clear, actionable, and scalable technical solutions. This role evaluates and recommends technologies that meet stakeholder needs while ensuring all proposed designs align with established enterprise architecture standards and strategic direction. The Solutions Architect partners closely with infrastructure teams, technical experts, and business stakeholders throughout the solution lifecycle to guide design, validate feasibility, and ensure alignment with modernization and transformation initiatives. This position proactively identifies risks, constraints, and trade offs in solution designs before implementation begins, helping agencies and project teams make informed technical decisions. Through strong analytical skills, architectural visualization, and collaborative engagement, the Solutions Architect contributes to the delivery of resilient, secure, and compliant technology solutions in support of OMES, partner agencies, and IT Enterprise Governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate business requirements into detailed, actionable technical solution designs that align with agency objectives and enterprise technology strategy.
  • Evaluate, compare, and recommend technologies, platforms, and design patterns that best meet stakeholder needs, security requirements, and long‑term maintainability.
  • Ensure proposed solutions adhere to enterprise architecture standards, guardrails, and reference architectures maintained by IT Enterprise Governance.
  • Partner with Technical Architects, Infrastructure teams, Product Owners, Developers, Testers, Vendors, and other cross‑functional stakeholders to guide the end‑to‑end solution lifecycle.
  • Identify architectural risks, constraints, and trade‑offs early in the discovery and design phases; present options and implications to stakeholders before implementation begins.
  • Develop and maintain solution architecture diagrams, models, decision records, and supporting documentation to ensure clarity, traceability, and alignment.
  • Conduct technical analysis, feasibility assessments, and conceptual design activities to support modernization and transformation initiatives across OMES and partner agencies.
  • Clearly document architectural decisions, rationale, risks, and solution impacts using standardized templates and enterprise documentation practices.
  • Present solution options, design artifacts, and technical recommendations to IT Enterprise Governance leadership and stakeholders using Microsoft PowerPoint and other visualization tools.
  • Continuously research emerging technologies, architecture methods, and industry trends to inform solution recommendations and improve enterprise architecture maturity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of OMES, partner agencies, and IT Enterprise Governance.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position works in a comfortable office setting with a computer for a large percentage of the workday. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild. Occasional travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Requirements include two years of professional experience in information technology network or information technology system design, installation and/or maintenance of a large-scale information technology or information technology system; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting twelve semester hours of course work in computer science, management information systems, or a related field for each year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.

  • A bachelor's degree in a related technical field is preferred.
