Job Description
Description: We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to support students in a K 2 adaptive classroom at Wells Elementary in Wilson, NC.
The classroom serves approximately 14 students and is supported by 2 Teacher Assistants (TAs). Students include children who are non-verbal and/or on the autism spectrum. This is a separate classroom setting; specific push-in/push-out service requirements are not currently available.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide specialized instruction and support to K 2 students with special education needs.
- Develop and implement individualized instruction aligned with students' IEPs.
- Collaborate with Teacher Assistants, school staff, and families to support student progress.
- Participate in staff meetings and required school activities.
- Attend additional IEP meetings as needed; overtime may be approved for eligible extra meetings.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
- Support students with daily living and personal-care needs as required.
Candidates must be comfortable assisting students with bathroom needs, including toileting and/or changing, when required.
Qualifications & Requirements:- EC (Exceptional Children) Licensure MUST be in hand at the time of consideration.
- Experience working with students with autism, non-verbal students, or significant support needs is preferred.
- Must be comfortable working in an adaptive/separate classroom environment.
- Must complete the Wilson County Schools-required background check.
- Daily: 7:20 AM 3:30 PM
- Working Hours: Approximately 40 hours/week
- Billable Hours: Approximately 37 hours/week, with an unpaid lunch
- Additional IEP meeting hours may be eligible for approved overtime.
