Position Overview
Birch Agency is actively seeking passionate and dedicated Cross Categorical and Specialized Special Education Teachers for multiple openings throughout Berkeley County, South Carolina.
These positions provide the opportunity to support students with a wide range of learning, behavioral, emotional, developmental, and functional needs across elementary, middle, and high school settings. We are seeking educators committed to delivering high-quality specialized instruction while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to promote student growth and success.
Current Opportunities
Cross Categorical Special Education Teacher
Multiple roles in the following grade levels:
Grades K-5
Grades K-5
Grades 6-8
Grades 9-12
Grades 9-12
Grades 9-12
These positions support students with a variety of disabilities through resource, inclusion, and co-teaching service delivery models within the general education curriculum.
Specialized Special Education Teacher (ED COPE / MSD)
Program Focus: Emotional Disabilities (ED COPE) and Multiple/Severe Disabilities (MSD)
Multiple roles in the following grade levels:
Grades 6-8 | ED COPE
Grades 9-12 | ED COPE
Grades K-5 | MSD
Grades K-5 | MSD
These specialized positions serve students with intensive behavioral, social-emotional, academic, developmental, and functional support needs in highly structured educational environments.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) based on students' unique needs.
Provide specialized instruction aligned with IEP goals and state standards.
Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and assessments to meet varying student needs.
Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families.
Implement evidence-based interventions and differentiated instructional practices.
Utilize positive behavior supports and classroom management strategies to promote student success.
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation to ensure compliance with federal and state special education regulations.
Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, parent conferences, and professional development activities.
Foster inclusive, structured, and supportive learning environments that encourage academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and functional growth.
Support students in developing independence, self-advocacy, and life skills as appropriate.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field preferred.
Active South Carolina Special Education certification required or eligibility to obtain certification.
Cross Categorical, Multi-Categorical, or Special Education certification preferred.
Experience working with students with emotional disabilities, behavioral challenges, autism, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, or multiple/severe disabilities preferred.
Knowledge of IEP development, IDEA compliance, differentiated instruction, accommodations, modifications, progress monitoring, and behavior intervention practices.
Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary educational teams.
Work Environment
School-based settings serving students across elementary, middle, and high school grade levels.

Caseloads ranging from approximately 10-12 students in specialized programs to 33 students in cross-categorical settings.
