Job Title: Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher Adapted CurriculumLocation: Kenansville, NC 28349Schedule: Full-time, school-basedEmployment Type: ContractGrade Levels: K 8Classroom Setting: Specialized/Self-ContainedCaseload: Approximately 7 8 studentsPay Rate:Starting at $40/hour (dependent on experience)Position OverviewBirch Agency is seeking a dedicated Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher to lead a specialized K 8 classroom serving approximately 7 8 students with primarily developmental and/or intellectual disabilities.This is an excellent opportunity for an educator who enjoys working in a small, highly supported classroom environment and wants to take ownership of instruction, classroom management, and IEP case management.The classroom is expected to be located adjacent to or within a shared classroom suite, providing opportunities for collaboration with an existing EC teacher and team.A Strong Support SystemThe new teacher will have a dedicated Teacher Assistant (TA) assigned to their classroom. The existing teacher will retain one TA, while the new teacher receives the other, providing additional classroom support throughout the day.Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a specialized K 8 EC classroom.
- Provide individualized and differentiated instruction based on students' developmental and educational needs.
- Support students primarily with developmental disabilities and/or intellectual disabilities.
- Develop and implement instruction aligned with students' IEP goals.
- Manage students' IEPs and case management responsibilities.
- Conduct and participate in IEP meetings with families, school staff, and related service providers.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation and progress reports.
- Implement appropriate accommodations, modifications, and behavioral supports.
- Provide effective classroom management and create a structured, supportive learning environment.
- Collaborate with the existing EC teacher and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Utilize the support of the classroom TA to promote student engagement, safety, independence, and academic growth.
- Help reduce the current caseload burden on the existing EC team by taking ownership of an additional classroom and student caseload.
- Appropriate North Carolina Exceptional Children/Special Education teaching licensure or eligibility to obtain licensure.
- Adapted Curriculum licensure is not specifically required.
- Candidates with General Education and/or Special Education licensure may be considered, depending on their qualifications and the needs/disabilities of the students assigned to the classroom.
- Experience working with students with developmental or intellectual disabilities preferred.
- Experience in a self-contained, specialized, or adapted curriculum classroom preferred.
- Strong classroom management and individualized instruction skills.
- Ability to manage IEPs and effectively serve as a student's case manager.
- Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and documentation skills.
- Starting pay of $40/hour
