The Global Accounting Specialist is responsible for the accounting, reporting, and control of corporate investment activities, including equity method investments, available‑for‑sale (AFS) securities, debt instruments, and related complex transactions. The role supports period‑end close, SEC reporting, audit support, and compliance with US GAAP. This position will also play a supporting role on debt and derivatives accounting and month end activities within the team. The Global Accounting Specialist will be expected to manage workload, deliverables especially around peak times during month end close and quarter end deliverables. This role will collaborate with stakeholders throughout Pfizer including Controllers; Corporate Treasury; Business Development; External Reporting; KPMG; among others.

Role Responsibilities

  • Perform month‑end and quarter‑end close activities related to investments, including journal entries, reconciliations, webforms, balance sheet analysis, and substantiation of balances

  • Support accounting for complex transactions, including acquisitions, partial disposals, impairments, and re‑measurements.

  • Support financial statement disclosures related to investments for Form 10‑K and 10‑Q filings

  • Ensure accuracy of balance sheet and P&L reporting for investment‑related accounts

  • Provide analysis and explanations for quarter‑over‑quarter and year‑over‑year variances on investment-related accounts.

  • Apply US GAAP for investment‑related transactions

  • Maintain strong adherence to SOX and internal control requirements

  • Support internal and external audits, including preparation of support schedules and audit responses

  • Partner with Treasury, Controllers, Divisional Controllers, Tax, and Finance teams to ensure accurate accounting and reporting

  • Act as a subject matter expert for investment accounting topics in global initiatives and projects

  • Identify and drive process improvements to increase efficiency, standardization, and control

  • Participate in global transformation initiatives (e.g., system implementations, close optimization, cash flow automation)

  • Contribute to documentation, policy updates, and knowledge sharing across Global Accounting

  • Maintain records, supporting files/documentation, complete/accurate work instructions, and necessary compliance documentation in an organized manner.

  • Work under general supervision using own judgment where needed and make decisions to resolve moderately complex problems with short term impact within the team.

  • Ensure activities are performed to a high standard of operational excellence, established service level agreements and deadlines are met, and adhere to defined process/control requirements.

  • Engage directly with all business partners on complex activities and deliverables; maintain effective relationships with business partners.

  • Focus on continuous improvement in order to improve efficiencies and grow value add opportunities and begin to apply experimentation and use of new ideas.

  • Review select activities of junior colleagues and provide informal coaching to further develop junior colleagues.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or finance discipline required.

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience required.

  • Practical experience of US GAAP and Statutory Accounting/Experience of other GAAPs required.

  • English proficiency required.

  • CPA Candidate, CPA, or international equivalent (ACCA) required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters or advanced degree is preferred.

  • Public accounting experience strongly preferred.

  • Advanced SAP & FCCS experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience with Treasury Quantum System.

  • Experience with Investment, Debt and Derivative Accounting.

  • International experience seen as a plus.

  • Strong understanding of the principles of the discipline and departmental knowledge to achieve assigned work.

  • Be a team player who can contribute to the team’s success during busy periods and downtime equally.

  • Communicates effectively with internal and external parties.

  • Willingness to begin to apply experimentation and use new ideas.

  • Comfortable taking the initiative and suggesting new ideas, processes, improvements, etc.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $79,700.00 to $132,900.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 10.0% of the base salary.
