Job Summary
The Specimen Technician (SPT I) provides general support within the Specimen Processing Department, performing a variety of production-focused laboratory support functions. This role requires a strong data entry background, attention to detail, and the ability to work accurately and efficiently in a high-volume, biohazard environment while meeting strict quality and productivity standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform specimen processing support functions including A-station, presort, pickup and delivery, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
- Ensure all work is completed with accuracy, confidence, and timeliness.
- Enter data at a rate of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
- Learn and understand specimen types related to client-ordered tests.
- Maintain compliance with test-ordering regulations, which may change frequently.
- Work in a production environment with a strong emphasis on productivity and quality standards.
- Practice proper biohazard safety procedures at all times.
- Communicate effectively with staff at all organizational levels.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in response to daily operational changes.
- Adhere to all core values, safety, and compliance policies.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Basic understanding of computer systems.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced production environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of laboratory testing or specimen processing.
- Medical background, including clinical laboratory terminology.
- Prior experience in a laboratory, hospital, or production environment.
