Job Summary

We are seeking a Specimen Technician I to join our Specimen Processing team in Wallingford, CT. This role is responsible for supporting laboratory operations by processing, preparing, and handling patient specimens in a fast-paced production environment. Candidates should possess strong data entry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently while maintaining quality and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform specimen processing activities, including accessioning, presorting, centrifugation, aliquoting, and imaging.
• Receive, sort, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing.
• Ensure accurate data entry with the ability to achieve high-volume keystroke requirements.
• Transport processed specimens to designated laboratory departments.
• Follow established safety, quality, and compliance procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Communicate effectively with laboratory staff and team members.
• Adapt to changing priorities and workflow demands.
• Work in a biohazard environment while adhering to safety protocols.
• Support departmental productivity and turnaround time goals.

Required Knowledge: Basic understanding of computers with a preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Strong data entry and computer skills.
• No experience required, but previous laboratory experience preferred.
• Medical background preferred which includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
• Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus but not required.
• Previous experience in a production environment is preferred.
