Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Performs examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention, and outcome in accordance with standards set by profession’s national association, scope of practice and hospital policies and guidelines. Works with leader to develop guidelines and protocols to improve performance in these areas across the department.

  • Provides age-appropriate and family-centered care in accordance with current evidence and practice standards, provider’s prescription and protocols and regulatory standards. Works with leader to develop guidelines and protocols to improve performance in these areas across the department.

  • Completes documentation per departmental and hospital policy and seeks opportunities to improve performance in the department to optimize reimbursement, efficient authorization processes and regulatory compliance.

  • Utilizes effective verbal and written communication with providers, patients of all ages and their families, hospital staff members, and other professionals to meet individual patient goals and improve processes, relationships and outcomes for a larger population.

  • Supervises therapy aides, students and volunteers in order to maintain patient safety and regulatory standards. Also informally supervises Staff Therapists I & II to support safe and effective patient care and professional growth.

  • Seeks and implements opportunities to participate in formal and informal education of new employees, students, volunteers, and members of same and other disciplines.

  • Seeks opportunities to collaborate and lead multi-disciplinary team to enhance outcomes for patient care through individual patient care coordination as well as education and research activities.

  • Seeks opportunities and participates in professional development activities and shares knowledge with other staff members and external audiences through formal and informal educational opportunities.

  • Participates and takes initiative in research projects, performance improvement processes, and outcome studies to promote the activities of the department and profession within and outside the organization.

  • Leads and participates in community activities, programs that benefit patients or programs that encourage wellness for our staff and the community.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Current licensure to practice in the State of Texas in applicable profession.

  • Successful completion of training in accredited program in applicable profession.

  • Certification in BLS.

  • 5 or more years of experience. 

  • Preferred board certification in specialty area.

Working Environment

  • Working conditions: both inside and outside.

  • Working Position: sitting, standing, and walking.

  • Physical Demands: heavy.

  • Physical Requirements: lifting/carrying, pushing/pulling, crawling, repetitive movement, stooping/kneeling/bending, climbing, balancing.

  • An Individual in this position will be required to lift or carry weight in this group: 35-50 lbs.

  • Sensory/Communicative activities essential to the performance of this position: feeling, hearing, seeing, speaking.

  • An Individual in this position will be exposed to: inside/outside environment, bloodborne pathogens, loud noise, chemical hazards, respiratory hazards.
