Sr. Environmental Health & Safety SpecialistEngineering OrganizationBrighton, Michigan Biovire is advancing toward commercialization with a focus on innovation, operational excellence, and scalable GMP manufacturing. We are seeking a Senior Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to build and advance our Environmental, Health & Safety Management System and strengthen proactive risk identification, employee ownership, and sustainable safety performance.This is a highly visible senior individual-contributor role with the opportunity to shape EHS programs, systems, training, and operating practices while partnering directly with leaders and employees across the organization.The RoleReporting to the Vice President, Engineering, the Sr. EHS Specialist will provide site-wide EHS subject-matter expertise and partner with functional leaders to translate regulatory requirements and business needs into practical, sustainable solutions.The role will support development of Biovire's long-term EHS strategy and annual roadmap; manage key environmental, hazardous-materials, and waste-management programs; lead audits, investigations, training, and safety forums; and help establish the systems and accountability necessary to embed EHS ownership throughout the business. Key ResponsibilitiesGrow, maintain, and continuously improve Biovire's Environmental, Health & Safety Management System.Partner with leadership to establish the long-term EHS strategy, annual roadmap, objectives, priorities, and performance measures.Advise leaders and employees on federal, state, and local EHS requirements and practical risk-reduction strategies.Partner with functional leaders to establish clear ownership and appropriate resources for EHS decisions, corrective actions, and continuous-improvement initiatives.Strengthen employee engagement, safety culture, and accountability through visible partnership, coaching, and proactive safety initiatives.Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS programs, procedures, standards, tools, and training.Manage environmental permits, registrations, certifications, regulatory reporting, OSHA recordkeeping, hazardous-material inventories, Safety Data Sheets, and associated compliance records.Lead the site Waste Management Program, including requirements for sorting, labeling, accumulation, and management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste at the point of generation.Oversee hazardous-waste characterization, storage, shipment, disposal, documentation, and coordination with approved third-party waste vendors.Plan and conduct EHS inspections and audits and maintain effective tracking of findings, corrective actions, ownership, and completion.Lead and coordinate the site Safety Committee structure and support effective communication and follow-through on EHS decisions and actions.Lead incident, injury, near-miss, and environmental-event investigations, including root-cause analysis and development of sustainable corrective and preventive actions.Design and deliver EHS training, train-the-trainer programs, job aids, and practical tools for employees, contractors, and leaders.Support emergency preparedness, response planning, drills, and continuous improvement.Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Engineering, Facilities, Maintenance, Quality, Human Resources, and other teams to integrate EHS into projects, equipment, processes, change controls, and daily work.Coordinate any third-party EHS consultants and service providers and support regulatory inspections, audits, information requests, and corrective actions.Monitor EHS performance and trends, communicate risks and progress to leadership, and recommend priorities for continuous improvement.What You BringBachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or another related Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience may be considered.6+ years of progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing environment, including meaningful responsibility for environmental compliance, occupational safety, and EHS program implementation.Strong knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.Experience with hazardous-materials management, Safety Data Sheets, hazardous-waste characterization, storage, shipment, disposal, and universal-waste requirements.Experience conducting EHS audits, managing corrective actions, leading incident investigations, and applying root-cause analysis.Experience developing and delivering EHS training for employees, contractors, and leaders.Experience interacting with regulatory agencies and supporting inspections or audits.Strong written and verbal communication, facilitation, organizational, and project-management skills.Ability to work independently while building effective partnerships and influencing employees and leaders across functions.         Preferred Qualifications include:Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) credential. Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment. Experience developing or maturing an EHS Management System and establishing an annual EHS strategy or roadmap.
