Job Description

Blue Origin is seeking a Sr. Program Safety and Reliability Engineer III to support high-risk aerospace development, testing, and operations for the Space Resources Program. This role serves as the embedded safety and reliability lead across design, build, commissioning, and test execution.Prescreen Questions

  1. Describe your experience leading hazard identification and control activities in a high risk operational environment (e.g., aerospace test, pilot plant, R&D, or chemical processing). Include: (a) the type of systems involved (e.g., high-temperature, high pressure, vacuum, hazardous chemicals), (b) the methods you used for hazard assessment (e.g., PHA, JHA, FMEA, HAZOP), and (c) a specific example where your work directly changed the design, procedure, or test plan.
  2. Embedded Safety Leadership & Cross-Functional Work This role is an embedded safety lead working day-to-day with engineering, test, facilities, and corporate EHS. Describe a situation where you served as the primary safety or reliability focal point for a development or test campaign. How did you: (a) balance schedule pressure with risk, (b) partner with a central EHS/HSSE organization, and (c) drive closure of corrective/preventive actions through to verification?

Sr. Program Safety and Reliability Engineer III Responsibilities

  • Serve as the embedded senior program safety engineer supporting engineering, test, facilities, operations, and corporate EHS teams.
  • Lead hazard identification, risk assessments, mitigation planning, verification, and closure for developmental systems and non-routine processes.
  • Support safety and reliability assessments for flight and non-flight hardware, exotic materials, hazardous chemicals, high-risk test environments, and operational readiness.
  • Provide safety expertise during design reviews, test reviews, readiness reviews, Management of Change, and go/no-go safety evaluations.
  • Implement safety programs related to industrial hygiene, fall protection, confined space, lockout/tagout, process safety, heat stress, noise hazards, chemical hazards, and environmental compliance.
  • Support incident response, investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, emergency planning, waste disposal, audits, and EHS training.

Sr. Program Safety and Reliability Engineer III Qualifications

  • Required: Experience leading hazard identification and controls in high-risk operational environments such as aerospace test, R&D, pilot plant, or chemical processing.
  • Required: Strong working knowledge of PHA, JHA, FMEA, HAZOP, risk assessments, process safety, EHS compliance, and safety readiness reviews.
  • Required: Ability to partner cross-functionally with engineering, test, facilities, corporate EHS/HSSE, and production teams while balancing schedule and risk.
  • Required: Experience preparing technical reports, safety assessments, investigation findings, and readiness documentation.
  • Preferred: Experience with high-temperature, high-pressure, vacuum systems, hazardous chemicals, exotic materials, or developmental aerospace hardware.
