Job Summary:

This position is based on‑site and requires four days per week in the Brea office to support collaboration and business needs.

The Senior Director of Global Trade Compliance is responsible for leading and managing Envista’s global trade compliance program. This position ensures that all imports, exports, and related activities are conducted in compliance with applicable international, federal, and local laws and regulations. The Senior Director serves as the key subject matter export and strategic advisor to executive leadership, develops and implements compliance policies, and oversees a global team to mitigate risks and enhance business operations. The Senior Director plays a critical role in shaping and maintaining a culture of trade compliance across all business units and regions, driving efficiency and accountability throughout the organization. The Senior Director reports to Envista’s Chief Compliance Officer.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive global trade compliance program, including policies, procedures, and training materials.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with applicable international trade regulations. Regularly review and update these documents to reflect evolving legal requirements and best practices, ensuring consistency across all business units.

  • Ensure organizational compliance with international trade, export sanctions/controls and customs laws, regulations, and standards (e.g., U.S.-EAR, U.S.-OFAC, U.S.-CBP and non-U.S. customs laws/regulations, including EU-ECN export controls/sanctions, HTS tariff classifications, and EUR-1 FTA requirements).

  • Lead and oversee the assessment and management of risk related to import/export activities, sanctions, controls, embargoes, and anti-boycott laws.

  • Oversee tariff classification, customs valuation, FTAs (e.g., USMCA, EUR-1), country of origin determinations/marking, export control classifications and documentation of goods for import/export, ensuring proper tariff and duty application as well as any export licenses, as needed.

  • Monitor regulatory changes and advise executive leadership (including the CEO, CFO and GC) on implications for business operations and strategy.

  • Interface and collaborate with government agencies (e.g., CBP, BIS, OFAC), external counsel, and industry groups to resolve international trade, export sanctions/controls and customs compliance issues and represent the organization.

  • Provide oversight and implement screening protocols covering US government and various international trade control regulations and make improvements as needed.

  • Lead, direct, and mentor a global team of compliance professionals and champion Envista’s GTC organization transformation efforts to include the automation of systems and processes; establish performance goals and support career development.

  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of trade compliance initiatives and drive continuous improvement. Conduct regular internal audits and investigations to identify potential compliance gaps, recommend corrective actions, and report findings to executive management.

  • Conduct internal audits, investigations, and corrective actions to address potential violations or discrepancies.

  • Foster a culture of compliance by promoting awareness and understanding of global trade requirements across all levels of the organization. Ensure timely and accurate responses to internal and external inquiries related to trade compliance matters, supporting business units in navigating complex regulations.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal/Compliance, Finance, Supply Chain, Transportation & Logistics, RAQA and other departments to ensure integrated compliance efforts.

  • Prepare and present compliance reports to executive leadership as needed.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Law, International Trade, or related field; Master’s or Juris Doctor preferred
  • 10-15 years of progressive experience in global trade compliance, including 10+ years in a senior leadership role, or equivalent management roles
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of global trade laws and regulations, including laws and regulations administered by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) categories, Export License conditions/processes and Dual Use Commodities

PREFERRED:

  • Skilled at defining and executing a global trade compliance strategy within a large, multinational organization; preferably in the medical device or high-technology industry
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CUSECO, CCS, CES) are a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex compliance projects from inception to implementation, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and regulatory obligations.
  • Adept at leveraging technology and data analytics to enhance compliance monitoring and reporting capabilities, resulting in improved operational efficiency and risk mitigation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Adept at managing complex projects across multiple regions, leveraging strong organizational and project management skills to deliver results within established timelines.
  • Extensive experience in international trade, export sanctions/controls and customs compliance, with a documented capacity to adeptly navigate complex legal and regulatory frameworks and lead cross-functional international teams
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with experience overseeing global teams.
  • Advanced analytical acumen, meticulous attention to detail, and superior communication skills are imperative to drive continuous improvement and uphold adherence to global standards.
  • Exceptional ability to influence others, act decisively and with a sense of urgency; must be able to effectively drive internal and stakeholder decision-making in relation to regulations, actions and investments
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
  • Proven ability to influence and collaborate with senior executives and cross-functional teams.

Target Market Salary Range:

Actual compensation packages take into account a wide range of factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to geographic location; skill sets; relevant education and certifications; depth of experience; performance; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed reasonable estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.  At Envista, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The total compensation package for this position may also include an annual performance bonus, medical/dental/vision benefits, 401K match, and/or other applicable compensation plans.
