Job Description

Job Title: QA Automation Engineer

Location: On-site in Glen Allen, VA

Job Description: As a QA Automation Engineer for Richmond National, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of our software applications through effective testing and automation. You will collaborate closely with the development team to design, develop, execute, and maintain automated test scripts, frameworks, and tools. Your expertise in automated testing, software quality assurance, and insurance industry knowledge will be crucial in identifying defects, ensuring compliance, and delivering high-quality software solutions to support our business operations.

Responsibilities:

Test Automation:

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts, frameworks, and tools using industry-standard testing tools and methodologies.

  • Collaborate with internal and external development teams to identify areas suitable for automation and integrate automated tests into the continuous integration and delivery pipelines.

  • Execute automated tests and analyze results to identify and report defects and inconsistencies, ensuring proper tracking and documentation of issues.

Test Planning and Strategy:

  • Collaborate with business analysts, software developers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and design comprehensive test plans and strategies.

  • Develop and maintain test cases, test scenarios, and test data to ensure maximum test coverage and effectiveness.

  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a test repository for reusability and efficiency.

Defect Management:

  • Identify, track, and report defects using issue tracking systems, ensuring clear and accurate documentation of issues and their resolutions.

  • Collaborate with Agile development teams to investigate and troubleshoot issues, providing detailed information and assisting in root cause analysis.

  • Validate defect fixes and perform regression testing to ensure no new issues arise.

Test Environment Management:

  • Assist in setup and maintenance of test environments, including test data preparation and configuration management, to support test execution and ensure accurate results.

  • Collaborate with system administrators and other stakeholders to ensure the availability and stability of test environments.

Quality Assurance:

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of software quality assurance practices, processes, and tools.

  • Participate in code reviews, requirements reviews, and design discussions to provide valuable input from a quality perspective.

  • Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in test automation tools and techniques. Recommend improvements to enhance testing efficiency and effectiveness.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, business analysts, and project managers, to ensure a seamless integration of testing activities throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Communicate testing progress, status, and any potential risks to stakeholders, including management and project teams.

  • Act as a subject matter expert in QA automation, providing guidance and mentorship to junior team members.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience (4-6 years) as a QA Automation Engineer.
  • Strong knowledge of software testing principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in test automation frameworks and test management tools (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, Cucumber, JUnit, TestNG, Testmo, Testrail).
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., TypeScript, Java, Python) for test automation.
  • Solid understanding of web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and API testing (Postman).
  • Experience with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) concepts and tools (e.g., Git, GitHub Actions, Docker).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and interact with stakeholders at various levels.

Compensation:

At the time of posting, the expected base salary range for this role is $95,000-$115,000 annually. Additionally, this position is eligible for participation in our annual bonus program. Actual compensation will be determined by many factors, including but not limited to, location, education, certifications, qualifications, relevant experience, internal equity, business need, and any applicable minimum wage requirements.
