Job Description

Job Description:

Come join the team at Techtronic Industries, the world leader in cordless technology spanning Power Tools, Outdoor Power Equipment, Floor Care Appliances and Accessories. We currently have an open position for a Sr. Concept Industrial Designer in the Outdoor Products Advanced Concepts group at our Innovation Center in Anderson, SC.

The Sr. Concept Industrial Designer is a key contributor within the Advanced Concepts group, responsible for front-end innovation and creation of breakthrough product concepts in the outdoor power equipment market. This role operates upstream of traditional product development, focusing on identifying unmet user needs, exploring new technologies, and developing novel product categories and disruptive solutions that redefine our current product offerings.

This position blends front-end industrial design, design thinking, rapid visualization, and system-level concept development. The ideal candidate thrives in a highly creative environment and is equally comfortable generating bold ideas through sketching, building and iterating physical mockups, and shaping early concepts into compelling product experiences. Working closely with the Advanced Concepts team and cross-functional partners, you will help define design vision, develop experiential and form-driven concepts, and contribute to forward-looking ideas that inform future product roadmaps. Daily work includes hands-on brainstorming, visualization, prototyping, user evaluation, and concept refinement. The Advanced Concepts team is highly collaborative, deeply hands-on, and driven by curiosity and continuous learning as we create new and innovative outdoor products.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead industrial design vision and concept development for new outdoor product categories and systems
  • Generate and explore bold design directions through sketching, digital modeling, physical mockups, and prototypes
  • Translate user insights, trends, and technology opportunities into differentiated product experiences
  • Collaborate closely with Advanced Concepts Engineers to ensure concepts balance desirability, feasibility, manufacturability, and viability
  • Recommend early colors, finishes, materials, form language, and interaction concepts to support future product roadmaps
  • Build and iterate physical prototypes to evaluate ergonomics, usability, and overall experience
  • Communicate concepts through clear visuals, models, and storytelling for leadership and cross-functional audiences
  • Support concept maturation from early exploration through feasibility validation and product development

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or related field, advanced degree preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in industrial design, concept development, or advanced innovation roles
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating front-end concept work, system thinking, and physical product design
  • Exceptional sketching, visualization, and form-development skills
  • Experience with CAD and visualization including Solidworks, NX, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Deep understanding of human factors and ergonomics
  • Hands-on prototyping experience with foam, 3D printing, and other rapid methods
  • Experience designing consumer hardware, tools, or outdoor products preferred
  • Willingness to travel ~15% (domestic/international)

We Value:

  • Self-starters who can work well autonomously and in collaboration with teams
  • Individuals with the “Maker” mindset – excited to jump into a new project and not afraid to get their hands dirty
  • Collaborative contributors – bring outside experience and interests to brainstorming sessions
  • Cross-functional communicators – able to translate information between technical and non-technical co-workers
  • Experience with Rapid Prototyping (varying materials and processes)
  • Familiarity with electrical and mechanical systems (ex. motors, microcontrollers, batteries)
