Job Title: Sr Engineering Technician - Electrical 3D Drafter Location: Chicago, IL 60606 Type: Contract-to-hire Compensation: $45 - $60/hr Contractor Work Model: Onsite Hours: 40.0 Security Clearance: Not specified in the provided dataOverview System One is seeking a Senior Engineering Technician (Electrical 3D Drafter) in Chicago, IL to contribute to power systems design by generating deliverables such as 3D general arrangements, sections & elevations, conduit / grounding plans, bill of materials and all corresponding details for substation projects. Senior Electrical Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high-quality engineering 2D/3D deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Under general supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring general knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying electrical design drawings using advanced techniques in industry standard design tools, such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, and other CAD tools.   • Contribute to power systems design by generating deliverables such as 3D general arrangements, sections & elevations, conduit/grounding plans, bill of materials, and all corresponding details for substation projects.

  • Support the development of high-quality engineering 2D/3D deliverables for complex infrastructure projects.

  • Perform technical tasks requiring general knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying electrical design drawings using advanced techniques in industry-standard design tools such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, and other CAD tools.

  • Establish and communicate appropriate design and graphic standards.

  • Review project requirements to determine correct formats and deliverable content.

  • Promote quality and consistency across projects, groups, and sections.

  • Review design inputs to ensure alignment and consistency.

  • Ensure deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design guides, standards, and processes.

  • Manage drawing control and maintain historical project records.

  • Apply engineering principles and established design practices to complex designs.

  • Perform design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and documentation.

  • Review deliverables produced by others for quality and accuracy.

  • Coordinate presentations, production design, and use of electronic design tools.

  • Support field activities as required.

  • Communicate project design requirements, progress, and schedules.

  • Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers, developing approaches to accommodate these concerns.

  • Identify and support training and development needs for supervised personnel.

  • Make presentations and conduct training classes within a specialized area of expertise.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology required.

  • Typically a minimum of 11 years related work experience.

  • Proficiency in digital tools and design software such as CAD, BIM, 3D modeling.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices.

  • Ability to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation and drawings.

  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills.
