  • Support prototype builds, testing, and validation activities, including field testing with solar installation equipment.

  • Assist in developing and executing NPI project plans, timelines, and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Analyze system-level interactions involving hydraulics, mechanical assemblies, electronics, and control systems to identify and resolve technical issues.

  • Lead or assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions during pilot production and early product lifecycle phases.

  • Drive continuous improvement of NPI processes, documentation, and standard operating procedures.

  • Monitor and track key NPI performance metrics such as readiness reviews, phase gate deliverables, and production readiness.

  • Support training and knowledge transfer to manufacturing and service teams.

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Technology, or related technical field, or equivalent experience.

  • Complete knowledge and full understanding of at least one piece of construction equipment, preferably a drill rig.

  • Wide-ranging experience with a variety of construction machines, understand operational practices, maintenance, design philosophies, tradeoffs between machines, and related topics.

  • Ability to diagnose and provide solutions to a diverse scope of problems, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, software/controls

  • Must be able to independently suggest and devise solutions based on very limited information (e.g. reports from unskilled operators, visual inspection with limited access)

  • 3+ years of experience in product development, NPI, or technical coordination roles in heavy equipment, construction machinery, or similar industries.

  • Understanding of the use of closed-loop control systems on construction tools, for example candidate should be able to determine if the solution for a problem would be related to mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, or software.

  • Hands-on experience with hydraulic systems, mechanical assemblies, control electronics, and diagnostics.

  • Strong understanding of BOMs, engineering drawings, and manufacturing processes.

  • Experience with prototyping, testing, and design-for-manufacture (DFM) principles.

  • Ability to interpret and analyze technical data and troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems.

  • Excellent communication and coordination skills. Must have ability/willingness to invest in relationships with non-experts both internally (e.g. supply chain, reliability) and externally (e.g. vendors of all different types of components, including but not limited to engines, air compressors, pumps, valves, weldments, filters, sensors and actuators)

  • Proficient with CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred), ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with equipment used in solar installation or renewable energy sectors.

  • Knowledge of project management principles or experience with stage-gate product development processes.

  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.

Physical and Travel Requirements

  • Ability to work hands-on with machinery and tools in lab, shop, and field environments.
