Summary: The Sr. Payroll & Systems Processor manages payroll processes and procedures for the bi-weekly and weekly payroll for all employees at SAM. This position ensures payroll is completed in accordance with local/state/federal laws and resolves discrepancies related to processing payroll.This role also serves as the UKG background support to help with projects and tasks as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
·Maintains accurate payroll information (multi-state) by partnering with UKG for the direct collection, calculation, and entering of data.
·Audits payroll records by reviewing changes in exemptions, job titles, department/ division transfers, increases, supervisor changes, location changes, vacation/PTO balance audits/updates.
·Pays employees by directing the production and issuance of paychecks or electronic transfers to bank accounts.
·Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
·Updates UKG with new location set up.
· Audits Time Off Balances.
· Maintains spreadsheets for PTO/Vacation special exceptions.
·Balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies.
·Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests.
·Maintains payroll guidelines by writing and updating standard operating procedures (SOP’s).
·Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
·Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
·Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing professional networks and participating in professional societies.
·Continues payroll cross-training with other payroll processors.
·Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
·Trains additional payroll staff and administrative functions.
·Maintains the highest level of confidentiality for employment-related information, i.e., compensation, bonuses, merit increase, etc.
·Works directly with District Managers & Corporate Staff to coordinate payroll processing.
·Ensures timely, accurate payroll processing with minimal errors.
·Maintains knowledge of laws regarding hourly and salaried payroll, i.e., FLSA OT, taxes, Sec-125, etc.
·Processes special pays for bonuses, commissions, and final pays.
·Provides payroll data for 401-K TPA and various auditors.
·Sets up new 401K’s and employee changes, including 401k Loan setup.
·Performs wage garnishment and maintains current knowledge of state laws on garnishment collections.
·In office scheduling requirements are determined by your supervisor and are subject to change at any time.
·Additional duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
·Post-secondary education is desired with a minimum of 5 years’ previous payroll experience processing large payrolls.
·3 years’ experience with UKG is preferred.
· Advanced computer skills to include web-based products and data management software.
·Proficiency in Excel and Word.
·Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
·Exceptional attention to detail.
·Professional approach with exemplary customer service and communication skills (written & verbal)
Language Skills:Must be fluent in speaking and writing the English language.
Work Hours: In a typical week, this position requires a minimum of 40 hours with regular and predictable attendance.Occasional weekend work may be required.
Work Environment: This work is usually performed with normal noise levels and minimum exposure to hazardous conditions. Employees in this position are required to reside in a state where SAM is registered to conduct business.
