Job Description
Real estate investment firm is seeking a Staff Accountant at their offices in Los Angeles.
The Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting the organization's accounting and financial reporting functions. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close processes, ensuring compliance with SOX controls and GAAP, and providing financial analysis to support business decisions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and thrives in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform day-to-day accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and execution of SOX-compliant internal controls.
- Review and analyze monthly financial reporting packages prepared by third-party service providers to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards.
- Prepare and maintain journal entries and supporting documentation for monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts to subledgers and supporting schedules, researching and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Prepare opening balance sheets and assist with purchase price allocations related to acquisitions transactions.
- Track, reconcile, and analyze construction-in-progress (CIP), fixed assets, seller financing arrangements, and GP developer fees.
- Monitor surplus cash positions and support cash management activities.
- Assist with financial consolidations and lender reporting requirements.
- Prepare monthly variance analyses and management reports while ensuring compliance with internal controls and SOX requirements.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to improve accounting processes, enhance operational efficiencies, and support system implementations.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external service providers to ensure transactions are accurately recorded and reported.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, responding to inquiries, and providing requested documentation.
- Investigate and resolve complex accounting issues and escalated transaction-related matters.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and standard operating documentation.
- Provide financial analysis, ad hoc reporting, and support for special projects as assigned.
- Prepare presentations, reports, and analyses for executive leadership, including the CFO, CAO, and Controller.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2–4 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including consolidations and financial reporting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
