Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant – General Ledger, Tax & Compliance to join our growing Finance team. This hybrid role combines traditional staff accounting responsibilities with hands-on compliance duties, including Sales & Use Tax filing, state business registrations, and multi-state nexus tracking. You will be instrumental in supporting the monthly close process while ensuring we remain in compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
General Ledger Accounting
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with the close calendar
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts, journal entries, and general ledger transactions
- Assist with internal and external audits, providing relevant support and documentation.
Tax & Compliance Oversight
- File and maintain Sales & Use Tax returns in multiple states (manual or via Avalara)
- Track and manage state business registrations, including foreign qualifications, renewals, and withdrawals
- Coordinate with HR/PEO (e.g., Justworks) to align payroll tax registrations with corporate filings
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with external tax advisors and legal to monitor regulatory changes that impact compliance
- Coordinate with internal finance leadership to prepare reports related to compliance exposure and tax liabilities
- Provide support to FP&A and the broader finance team during budgeting and forecasting cycles as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- 2–4 years of experience in accounting, with exposure to multi-state compliance or Sales & Use Tax preferred
- Familiarity with GAAP accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (NetSuite preferred)
