This role plays a pivotal role in shaping architectural decisions, championing scalable, secure, and efficient solutions to meet current and future needs. The Staff Software Engineer serves as a subject matter expert, providing technical leadership and mentorship to teammates, partner teams, and engineers. The Staff Software Engineer takes ownership across the technical stack to improve speed of delivery, developer productivity, and overall engineering effectiveness. The Staff Software Engineer collaborates with cross-functional partners to understand requirements and deliver high-quality software products.About the Team:BuyBox is a critical service within Walmart's e-commerce platform, responsible for selecting the best offer for an item. The BuyBox team is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing the complex ecosystem of micro services, which selects the best offer for Walmart customers using machine learning and business rules. They ensure integration with upstream and downstream systems, monitor performance, and address ranking issues to maximize customer and business value.This collaborative environment emphasizes technical expertise, continuous development, and innovation to enhance operational excellence and customer satisfaction across the supply chain.What You'll Do:
  • Act as a technical lead to design, develop, and deliver multiple business- or technology-driven projects with small to medium-sized teams, supporting new functionalities anduser experiences.
  • Play a pivotal role in shaping architectural decisions, championing scalable, secure, andefficient solutions to meet current and future needs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, providing technical leadership and mentorship toteammates, partner teams, and engineers.
  • Guide software engineers in building and delivering secure REST services using SpringBoot, Spring MVC, Kafka, Kubernetes, Maven, and cloud technologies.
  • Take ownership across the technical stack to improve speed of delivery, developerproductivity, and overall engineering effectiveness.
  • Drive availability, quality, performance, and resiliency goals with your team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners including Product, Business, and Operationsto understand requirements and deliver high-quality software products.
  • Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering relevant information (issue,impact, and criticality), performing root cause analysis, engaging support teams asneeded, developing action plans, and completing required documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with peers and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Enjoy spending time writing and reviewing code while leading technical andarchitectural design discussions.
  • Help establish tools, processes, and documentation to continuously improve code qualityand engineering standards.
  • Perform design and code reviews, suggest improvements to ensure thehighest level of quality and maintainability.
  • Oversee development lifecycles, analyze application logs, maintenance activity data, performance data, and provide analysis; evaluate change requests to identify those which are valid and feasible.
  • Document code, technical specifications, and instructional materials for team members and stakeholders.
What You'll Bring:
  • 10+ years of experience building complex architectures, distributedsystems, and microservices.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Java technologies, Spring-boot, Kafka,Kubernetes, SQL and NoSQL databases, distributed caching, event-streaming platforms such as Kafka, and container technologies.
  • A disciplined approach to software development, including code reviews,testing, documentation, and clean code practices.
  • A strong desire to continuously improve, learn, and adopt the latestcapabilities in Kubernetes, Java, and Spring Boot.
  • Hands-on experience with BigQuery and Cassandra is a plus.
  • Proven ability to translate requirements into project plans while working in an agile environment.
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional teams to solve businessproblems and deliver best-in-class customer experiences.
  • A collaborative leadership style that encourages teams to work togetherand deliver insight-driven outcomes.
  • Knowledge of telemetry implementation, security policies, and softwar development lifecycle (SDLC) best practices.
  • Good problem-solving attitude and analytical skills.
  • Ability to balance the long-term "big picture" and short-term implicationsof design decisions.
  • Proficiency in Azure and GCP
