Job Description

The Staff Auditor is primarily responsible for executing internal audit activities at the direction of the Internal Auditor by assisting in conducting financial, operational, and compliance audits across the institution. This role supports the evaluation of internal controls, risk management practices, and regulatory compliance. Under supervision, the Staff Auditor performs testing, documents work performed and contributes to audit reports that help strengthen the organization's control environment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  3. Assists in planning and performing audits of financial, operational, and compliance processes.

  4. Conducts walkthroughs and documents processes, risks, and internal controls.

  5. Performs control testing and substantive procedures in accordance with internal audit standards.

  6. Collects, analyzes, and interprets data to identify trends, anomalies, or control deficiencies.

  7. Drafts concise, well-supported audit observations and recommendations.

  8. Assists in preparing audit reports and presentations.

  9. Follow up on corrective actions to ensure timely remediation.

  10. Maintains accurate and complete audit workpapers in compliance with the Internal Audit Department program.

  11. Participates in exit meetings and communicates findings clearly and professionally.

  12. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of state and federal banking regulations and internal audit practices.

  13. Complies with all applicable federal, state, and local banking and industry related laws and regulations.

  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements and Qualifications:

Education:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or business-related field.

  2. One to three years of applicable experience preferred.

Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates):

  1. None

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Experience and / or training in banking or public accounting.

  2. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  3. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  5. Ability to work independently while supporting team objectives.

  6. High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional skepticism.

  7. Basic understanding of internal controls, audit principles, or bank operations is a plus.

Work Conditions:

  1. Able to routinely stand, sit, bend and stoop.

  2. Frequently and regularly required movements using wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

  3. Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare/inspect documents or products and operate equipment.

  4. Ability to hear average normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

  5. Periodic travel to various branch locations.

  6. May be required to travel to training sessions.
