Job Description

Staff Electrical Design Engineer (EPC) — Design It All, Own It All

San Francisco, CA | Full-Time | $190,000 – $252,500

The Opportunity

Some roles give you a narrow lane. This one gives you the whole road. Our client — a rapidly scaling clean energy innovator — is looking for a Staff Electrical Design Engineer to lead end-to-end electrical design for an exceptional range of facilities: hazardous occupancy spaces, industrial recycling plants, labs, offices, warehouses, and 34.5 kV/24.9 kV site infrastructure. As Electrical Engineer of Record, you'll take deliverables from concept through construction with genuine independence — and compensation to match.

Why You'll Love It

  • Top-of-market pay: $190K–$252.5K base
  • Complete ownership: EOR authority from first sketch to commissioning
  • Portfolio breadth few roles offer: MV site infrastructure through specialized lab environments
  • Engineering, not templating: Optimized ampacity calcs and power studies over prescriptive tables

What You'll Do

  • Design and own electrical systems across the board — MV feeds up to 34.5 kV, LV distribution, lighting, raceway, grounding, communications
  • Produce permit and construction drawings as Electrical Engineer of Record
  • Perform short-circuit, arc flash, and protective device coordination studies (SKM/ETAP)
  • Run cable ampacity calculations (AmpCalc) to optimize beyond NEC prescriptive tables
  • Lead coordination across architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and fire & life safety teams to deliver complete IFC packages
  • Review conceptual designs for technical and financial risk; write specs and evaluate consultant bids
  • Lead code analysis across NEC, IECC, and applicable NFPA standards
  • Own construction administration — RFIs, submittals, change orders, on-site inspections — through commissioning
  • Estimate costs, build schedules, QA/QC designs, mentor junior engineers, and shape design standards

What You'll Bring

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering (ABET)
  • Active PE (Nevada or reciprocity-eligible); NV and SC licensure within 2 months of start
  • 10+ years in heavy commercial/industrial sectors with evidence of exceptional ability
  • Expert-level NEC, IECC, and NFPA code knowledge
  • Advanced proficiency: Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, SKM/ETAP, AmpCalc, Visual/AGI
  • Independent management of multiple concurrent projects
  • Site travel flexibility across project phases
  • Communication that works at every level, field to executive
