Staff Engineer, Gas
Location: Houston, TX 77002 (Hybrid)Pay Rate: $60.00Duration: 6 Month Contract
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Staff Engineer, Gas to support the design, planning, and execution of natural gas distribution and transmission projects. This role is responsible for managing engineering projects from concept through completion, including design development, permitting, cost estimating, regulatory compliance, construction support, and stakeholder coordination. The ideal candidate will possess strong utility engineering experience, a Professional Engineer (PE) license, and extensive knowledge of natural gas pipeline systems, DOT regulations, and project management principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Design natural gas distribution and transmission facilities, including cathodic protection systems.
- Develop plans, specifications, easements, permits, bid packages, contracts, and regulatory documentation.
- Prepare system capacity studies, pressure modeling analyses, cost estimates, material specifications, and project schedules.
- Design new installations, relocations, system improvements, subdivision developments, and infrastructure replacement projects.
- Create and submit construction drawings and engineering documentation.
- Conduct economic feasibility studies and provide customer contribution recommendations.
- Coordinate engineering activities with customers, contractors, municipalities, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders.
- Provide engineering and design support to field operations and construction teams.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring schedule and budget compliance.
- Develop operational procedures and project execution plans.
- Lead and coordinate design and construction activities for complex projects involving multiple feeds and installation requirements.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to project teams.
- Maintain compliance with DOT CFR 192 regulations, natural gas design standards, and company engineering policies.
- Prepare presentations and reports for management, customers, and regulatory agencies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related accredited engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
- Minimum 10 years of utility engineering, gas distribution, transmission design, or related infrastructure project experience.
- Experience managing engineering projects from design through construction completion.
- Strong understanding of natural gas distribution systems, pipeline design standards, and utility construction practices.
- Experience with system capacity studies, pressure modeling, and engineering calculations.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
