Job Description

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to help drive the evolution of our frontend platform, architecture, and engineering practices across OneMain's digital experiences. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader who is passionate about modern web technologies, frontend architecture, developer experience, observability, and platform scalability.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Angular, JavaScript/TypeScript, micro frontend architecture, web performance, analytics instrumentation, and operational excellence. This role requires strong technical leadership, the ability to influence engineering direction across teams, and experience building and supporting large-scale customer-facing web and mobile applications.

You will work closely with Product, UX, Architecture, Security, and Engineering teams to deliver modern, scalable solutions while helping establish standards, best practices, and technical direction across our frontend ecosystem. The ideal candidate demonstrates a growth mindset, quickly develops expertise in new domains and technologies, and thrives in environments that require continuous learning, adaptability, and technical leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for frontend architecture, platform capabilities, and engineering best practices across web and mobile customer experiences.

  • Partner with engineering teams to evolve Angular-based applications, micro frontend architecture, shared component libraries, and frontend platform standards.

  • Design scalable, maintainable, and performant customer-facing web and mobile experiences.

  • Partner with product, UX, platform, and architecture teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

  • Drive observability improvements through client-side monitoring, logging, telemetry, and performance measurement across web and mobile applications.

  • Partner with analytics and business teams to implement tracking, tag management, experimentation, and customer journey measurement strategies.

  • Collaborate with platform and DevOps teams to improve release processes, deployment automation, and operational readiness.

  • Lead root-cause analysis and troubleshooting efforts for complex production issues impacting customer experiences.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and architectural patterns to support modernization initiatives.

  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, technical coaching, and architecture discussions.

  • Influence technical direction across teams and help establish standards that improve developer productivity, reliability, scalability, and customer experience.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for frontend technologies, digital customer experiences, and platform engineering practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on frontend development.

  • Experience delivering and supporting customer-facing web and mobile applications in production environments.

  • Deep expertise in Angular, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern web application architecture.

  • Experience implementing micro frontend architectures and shared UI platforms.

  • Experience with frontend observability, monitoring, logging, and performance optimization.

  • Familiarity with analytics instrumentation, digital tracking, tag management solutions, and experimentation platforms.

  • Strong understanding of API integrations and distributed system interactions.

  • Experience supporting production systems and troubleshooting complex customer-facing issues.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence technical decisions across teams.

  • Passion for technical excellence, continuous improvement, and mentoring other engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS and cloud-native application architectures.

  • Familiarity with modern frontend build and deployment pipelines..

  • Experience leading frontend platform modernization and migration initiatives.

  • Experience building reusable design systems, component libraries, and shared frontend frameworks.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical strategy and execution across multiple teams.

  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced environments while balancing delivery, quality, and long-term sustainability.

Target base salary range is $130,000-$160,000 for Baltimore MD, which is based on various factors including skills and work experience. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for a competitive compensation program that is based on individual and company performance.
