About Semgrep

Semgrep, the leader in code security for builders, empowers invention without friction. Teams catch, flag, and fix real issues before they ship, powered by security that learns as they build. Semgrep secures code as it’s written and provides guardrails that pave the road for developers to move fast and stay secure. Built for builders and trusted by security, Semgrep lives where developers work, delivering fixes without breaking flow, and giving security teams visibility, control, and confidence. Semgrep gets smarter as you build, with AI that learns your context to cut false positives and prioritize reachable vulnerabilities, validated by 95% of security reviewers across 6M+ findings. Semgrep makes zero false positives a reality with AppSec teams triaging 80% fewer false positives across Code and Supply Chain, dramatically shrinking the backlog.

Founded in San Francisco and backed by Menlo Ventures, Felicis Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Redpoint Ventures, and Sequoia Capital, Semgrep is recognized by Gartner in Application Security Testing and is trusted by leading organizations, including Vanta, Lyft, and Dropbox. About the role

We’re looking for a Staff Product Designer to own the end-to-end experience of Semgrep’s platform, working across product areas to define what great security tooling looks and feels like. This is a high ownership role with significant influence over both the product and how design operates within the company.

You’ll work on deeply technical problems across detection, remediation, triage, and developer workflows and make them intuitive and trustworthy. You’ll help define not just what we build, but how we build it.

Design at Semgrep is still growing, which means you’ll have a large influence over how we operate and scale. We use tools like Claude Code and Cursor throughout the product development lifecycle and we want someone who pushes us even further. We’re interested in people who see these tools as a way to fundamentally accelerate how we work.

What you’ll do

  • Own ambiguous cross-cutting design initiatives end-to-end, from problem framing and research through shipped outcomes.

  • Partner closely with PM and engineering leads to shape roadmap direction and product strategy grounded in real user needs and behaviors.

  • Design whole systems. You’ll make complex security workflows feel simple and trustworthy.

  • Conduct and champion user research and share the knowledge you gain about users and their workflows. You’re comfortable with both qualitative and quantitative signals like task success and time on task.

  • Raise the quality bar through strong craft, clear thinking, thoughtful critique, and high standards for execution.

  • Build guidance and tools that enable non-designers to make better design decisions.

  • Help shape how design scales at Semgrep as the team and product grow.

  • Use AI tools as a core part of how you design and build when they meaningfully improve speed or quality.

Some example projects that you might work on include

  • Reimagine the information architecture of the Semgrep app to better match user mental models as their workflows and the technology they use evolve.

  • Evolve the core workflows of our customers (triage, detection, remediation) to be intuitive, trustworthy, and AI–powered and define what “great” looks like for automated application security tooling.

  • Shape and codify design system components so the broader team (and not just design) can self-serve with confidence.

You are ideal for this role if you

  • Have 8+ years of product design experience working on complex digital products, ideally with exposure to developer tooling, security, or other technical enterprise products.

  • Have led design on complex, cross-team initiatives with meaningful product and organizational impact.

  • Are comfortable working closely with engineers and understanding technical systems in depth.

  • Use research, data, and customer conversations to inform decisions.

  • Have the ability to balance systems thinking with attention to detail, and to iterate quickly while maintaining a high quality bar.

  • Communicate clearly and bring structure to ambiguous problems.

  • Have a genuine interest in making the designers around you better. Have a proven track record of mentoring other designers.

  • Are excited about using AI tools as part of your design and prototyping workflow and already have opinions about how to use these tools well.

Location

SF/NY based; open to exceptional remote candidates willing to be in office at least 1 week per quarter.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $205,000 - $250,000 USD

  • Our compensation package includes equity and benefits in addition to salary.

What we offer (FTE only)

Our goal is to competitively and fairly compensate every Semgrep employee with a system that equally rewards those who are vocal and those who are less comfortable making demands during the final steps of the hiring process. To that end, we generate internal compensation bands that are used when discussing and negotiating salaries. We update these based on market data to make sure they’re above the average for comparable roles.

We invest in our employees’ well-being and long-term success through a competitive, market-aligned benefits program that meets or exceeds local market standards across all of the regions in which we hire. Benefits offerings vary by location to reflect local requirements and norms. For more detailed, location-specific information, please visit Semgrep Benefits.

Who we are

We bring together people from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines—from physics and philosophy to formal methods research and full-fledged corporations. We’re new parents and new grads, dog lovers and dogfooders. We get together often to bike, bake, and meet up in parks. In our interactions, we believe respect and honesty go hand in hand, and prioritize both.

Semgrep is an equal-opportunity employer seeking a diverse range of backgrounds. We value who you are — including your cultural heritage, your socioeconomic status, your age, your race, your gender, your sexual orientation, your disabilities. We value what’s vitally important to you — your family, your religion, your politics. We value what you love in this world — your music, your weekend pursuits. We believe in welcoming varied professional backgrounds, educations, and interests. If you’re exceptional in your role, believe in Semgrep’s mission, and treat Semgrep’s values as your own, you belong here.

Please Note: For US-based roles open to remote work, we are currently able to hire employees in the following states only: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
