Stone Cutter Apprentice

• Guide nozzle over stone following stencil outline or chips along marks to create design or work surface down to desired finish.
• Drill holes, moldings, and grooves into the stone.
• Study artistic objects and graphic materials, such as models, sketches, or blueprints and plans carving or cutting technique to increase cutting skills.
• Lay out designs or dimensions on stone surface, by freehand or transfer from tracing paper, using scribe or chalk and measuring instruments. 
• Select chisels, pneumatic or surfacing tools, or sandblasting nozzles and determine sequences of their use according to the intricacy of design or figure.
• Remove or add stencil during blasting to create differences in depth of cuts, intricate designs, or rough, pitted finish.
• Load and operate sandblasting equipment with abrasive. Attached nozzles to hose and turn valves to admit compressed air and activate jet.
• Verify depth and dimensions of cut or carving, using measuring instruments to ensure adherence to specifications.
• Adhere to all workplace safety practices.
• Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

• Frequently required to periods sitting at a desk and working on a personal computer for up to 10 hours a day.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch, and reach with hands and arms for up to 10 hours a day.
• Frequently required to use hands and arms to handle, install, position and move materials and manipulate stone.
• Frequently required to have arm-hand steadiness while in one position.
• Frequently required to use wrist, fingers, and hands for fast and repeated movements.
• Frequently required to hear on phone and video calls.
• Frequently required to use hand and power tools and large machinery.
• Frequently required to use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
• Frequently required to lift and/or move upwards of 50 pounds up.
• Occasionally required to lift and/or move upwards of 100 pounds up.

• Work environment is primarily outdoor and office setting at the Cemetery.
• Exposure to constant temperature changes, chemicals and particles, loud noises and vibrations, climate changes, extreme weather such as lighting, high winds, snowstorms, etc.
