Our team works closely with public agencies throughout Illinois, providing responsive service, technical excellence, and trusted project leadership. Position OverviewPeralte‑Clark is seeking an experienced Project Manager – Level 2 to lead transportation highway projects with an emphasis on drainage and stormwater management design. This role is well suited for a seasoned professional who excels at managing multidisciplinary teams, maintaining strong client relationships, and delivering technically sound projects on schedule and within budget. The Project Manager – Level 2 is a fully qualified, career-level position responsible for all phases of project delivery-from proposal development and project initiation through execution and closeout-while meeting technical, contractual, and financial objectives. Key ResponsibilitiesManage and deliver transportation and highway projects with a focus on drainage systems, stormwater management, and hydraulic design
Build and maintain strong client relationships and serve as a primary point of contact
Lead project planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, and budget
Develop and manage project budgets, staffing plans, invoicing, and extra work requestsQA/QC drainage projects
Train and mentor junior staff on drainage concepts and design protocols and procedures
Coordinate cross-functional teams and oversee technical staff and subconsultants
Monitor project performance related to cost, quality, risk, staffing, and schedule
Lead or participate in project-specific marketing pursuits, proposal preparation, and client presentations
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local agency requirements, including permitting and regulatory submissions
Conduct regular project progress meetings and ensure contractual requirements are met
Support staff development through mentoring, supervision, and performance feedback as needed Ideal Experience & BackgroundSuccessful candidates will demonstrate:Proven experience managing transportation and highway infrastructure projects
Strong background in drainage design, with experience designing storm sewers, detention systems, stormwater modeling, and compensatory storage.Experience working with public agencies such as: Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT)Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (ISTHA)City of Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT)County DOTsMunicipal agencies throughout IllinoisExperience working with permitting agencies such as the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) a plus.Ability to independently manage complex projects and exercise sound engineering judgment
Strong communication, coordination, and leadership skills
Familiarity with project contracts, scopes, and agency design standards
Experience using drainage software including Bentley Drainage and Utilities Module, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, Win TR-20, HY-8, StormCAD, etc. QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (required)Minimum 10+ years of relevant professional experience
Formal project management training preferred
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred (or ability to obtain)Full understanding of industry practices, company procedures, and public agency requirements
