Forsgren, an Apex Company, is seeking a motivated and experienced Structural Bridge Engineer to join our growing Structural Engineering Department. This is an exciting opportunity to work on meaningful infrastructure projects that serve communities throughout Idaho. Our team delivers planning, engineering, and construction management services for transportation, industrial, and environmental projects, with a strong emphasis on local and regional work throughout Idaho. The projects you'll support will primarily be located across Idaho, working with agencies and clients including the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) and Local Highway Technical Assistance Council (LHTAC).

Position Overview

In this role, you will contribute to the design, analysis, and delivery of transportation structures including bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and other miscellaneous structural systems. Depending on experience level, under the supervision of more senior engineers you will participate in small to medium-sized structural projects or serve as a technical contributor on larger, multidisciplinary efforts. You will work both independently and collaboratively, with mentorship and support available while maintaining responsibility for structural tasks and coordinating with internal teams and clients.

Your Responsibilities as a Structural Bridge Engineer:

  • Plan, analyze, and design transportation structures, including preparation of engineering calculations and technical reports.
  • Participate in preparation of plans, specifications, and engineer's cost estimates (PS&E packages).
  • Perform bridge load rating.
  • Conduct structural modeling and analysis using industry-standard software.
  • Prepare engineering reports and technical memoranda.
  • Review shop drawings and provide construction-phase engineering support.
  • Assist with or lead construction cost estimation and quantity takeoffs.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and permitting requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, high-quality solutions.
  • Support projects for Idaho transportation agencies and local clients, including ITD and LHTAC.

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible structural design experience.
  • Experience in concrete, steel, and/or prestressed concrete bridge design is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
  • Familiarity with Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) and/or LHTAC standards, specifications, and design practices is preferred.
  • Experience with structural analysis software such as CSiBridge, SAP2000, LPILE, RISA3D, or similar.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage structural tasks under supervision.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD; experience with MicroStation is a plus.

Why you'll love working for us:

  • Company-subsidized medical and dental.
  • Company-paid life, short, and long-term disability.
  • 401k match, tuition assistance, and more.
  • Cross-training and the ability to work on a variety of projects.
  • Performance-based bonuses or other incentives.
  • Working with the best and brightest in the industry.
  • 2,000+ employee national firm with 70+ locations across the US.
