Job Summary
Designers at this level develop ownership in their designs and can work independently on smaller projects, collaborating directly with engineers. They may also act as lead designers on larger projects, overseeing intermediate and entry-level designers. This role requires experience in structural systems and a working knowledge of related disciplines. Designers are expected to ensure high accuracy in their work and the work of their team.
Responsibilities
- Create, coordinate, and publish project deliverables, including drawings, models, and documentation.
- Perform design development under the guidance of senior designers and engineers.
- Work independently with minimal supervision to advance project goals.
- Review and ensure the accuracy and completeness of work by junior designers and early-career engineers.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the team.
- Assist with engineering calculations as needed.
General Tasks
- Plan and conduct work involving judgment, creativity, and coordination in structural system design.
- Participate in design discussions and propose solutions.
- Prepare deliverables for all project phases, including models, plans, and construction documents.
- Attend design status meetings and provide updates on responsibilities.
- Review specifications and provide input to ensure high-quality designs.
- Coordinate designs and resolve conflicts with other disciplines and field conditions.
- Conduct field surveys of existing conditions.
- Respond to design and coordination requests promptly.
- Provide labor estimates for tasks.
- Review and process submittal documents.
Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of structural design and familiarity with related disciplines.
- Understanding of project scope, schedule, and budget, with the ability to identify scope changes.
- Ability to solve technical problems and present solutions to the design team and clients.
- Strong understanding of industry best practices and codes.
- Leadership skills to guide junior staff positively.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Bluebeam for modeling and drafting.
