Job Description

Support retail food ops by preparing high-quality baked goods in a safe, efficient, and consistent manner. This role contributes directly to customer satisfaction, product availability, and overall food service quality.

This is a student position that pays $16.75/hr

Core Responsibilities:

  • Prepare cookies, and other baked to support Retail Food operations
  • Assemble baked items daily for transport and delivery to retail and dining units, ensuring all products include accurate ingredient labeling
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, including equipment, ovens, counters, and floors, in compliance with food safety standards
  • Research, develop, and introduce new cookies/baked goods
  • Compile and distribute accurate ingredient lists for all products, ensuring compliance with allergen identification and communication requirements
  • Provide the receiver/manager with detailed and timely order lists for Bake Shop inventory needs
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental operations and uphold Dining Services’ mission

Requirements

Position Prerequisites:

  • Basic knowledge of baking techniques or willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and detailed instructions with precision
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and commitment to product quality
  • Reliability and punctuality, including early morning or evening availability as needed
  • Ability to adhere to food safety and sanitation standards (ServSafe certification preferred but not required)
  • Physical ability to meet job demands as outlined below

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

•Ability to lift 10–20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally

•Ability to lift and store items above waist level on a regular basis

•Ability to push and pull loads up to 150 pounds frequently (e.g., ingredient bins, racks, transport carts)

•Ability to stand for extended periods during shifts in a production kitchen environment

•Frequent bending, twisting, reaching, and repetitive manual motions required for food preparation tasks

•Ability to perform a high volume of manual tasks and safely operate a variety of commercial kitchen equipment

•Work is conducted in a fast-paced kitchen environment with exposure to heat, noise, and food production equipment •Successful completion of a criminal background check may be required in accordance with college policy

Student Employment Eligibility:

Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.

Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.

Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.

Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.

Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
