Description

What is a Resident Assistant?

The Resident Assistant is responsible for managing a living area on campus and aiding in the development of the students living in that area. RAs are expected to serve as role models and peer mentors to other students, and to be a resource to their residents for a variety of needs. This involves managing administrative duties, such as check-ins, health and safety checks, furniture, and keys, as well as developmental duties, such as hosting floor gatherings, planning events, and helping students in crisis. In all of this, RAs are responsible for facilitating among their residents. This is all accomplished alongside other RAs within your living space and under the supervision of an RD.

What is required of RAs?

RAs work for an average of 10 hours a week and are compensated $10/hr.

Some weeks (such as training, NSO, and check-outs) may require more hours, but other weeks will require less

Compensation is paid at a consistent rate, regardless of lighter or busier weeks

Hours worked are not formally clocked or logged

Regular expectations of RAs include:

Weekly staff meeting(s)

Weekly one-on-one with RD or ARD

Rounds (approx. one night a week, 5 hours for the night)

Other administrative duties:

Room changes, maintenance requests, health and safety checks, incident reports etc.

Other relational duties:

Spending time with residents, responding to situations, facilitating community connection

RAs are required to participate in WalkAbout (Urban or Smokys)

RAs are required to return to GU on August 4

RAs are required to be on campus during designated times, especially the saturdays before breaks

RAs are required to do online summer training found on D2L. RAs who complete this work will be compensated $100 for their time

Requirements

RAs must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 to continue in the position.
