Substance Use Disorder Counselor
Location: Baltimore, MD Job Type: Full-Time Schedule: Daytime and occasional evening hours based on business needs Reports To: Clinical Director
Role Summary
The Substance Use Disorder Counselor delivers person-centered services through individual and group counseling sessions. This role requires advanced therapeutic expertise and the ability to operate independently within a multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate understands the full continuum of care and how clients progress through various stages of treatment.
Responsibilities
Maintain accurate clinical records and assessments (including TAP, bio-psycho-social histories)
Coordinate urine sample collection with strict adherence to protocol
Collaborate with community organizations, health systems, courts, and referral sources
Provide substance use counseling, education, and individualized support
Develop treatment plans in coordination with the Program Director
Refer clients to supplemental support services when necessary
Manage a full caseload of clients
Participate in ongoing professional development as directed
Required Qualifications
Active Maryland licensure: LCPC, LMSW, LGPC, or LCSW-C
Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in substance use or behavioral health
Valid driver’s license and appropriate credentials
Completion of 25 hours of annual training
Skills and Competencies
Proficiency with MS Office Suite and ability to learn proprietary systems (SMART, Beacon Health)
Working knowledge of clinical documentation and chemical dependency manifestations
Expertise in group facilitation and behavior dynamics
Ability to build trust and engagement with diverse populations
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Respect for professional boundaries and ethical practice
