Job Description

The Montana Youth Challenge Academy (MYCA) is seeking a Substitute Teacher

This is a variable, on-call as-needed position. Responsibilities include filling in for the absence of full-time teachers, assisting the education department with testing and projects, and other educational duties as needed. Availability to report to work on short notice is a plus. This position reports to the MYCA Education Program Specialist and does not supervise others.

Montana Youth Challenge Academy provides two 22-week sessions of development, per year, for approximately 110 youth participants ranging in age from 16 to 18 years in each session. Occasional travel and weekend work may be required.

This position is not included in the Academic Teacher Career Ladder.

Qualifications - External

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree and comfortable teaching high school students and its curriculum in a classroom setting.

Preferred qualifications: Bachelor's degree in education, or a related field. Possess certification from the State of MT, Class 1, 2, or 5 in any field. Teaching experience is preferred.

Conditions of employment:

  • Must pass a pre-employment and on-going random drug screenings;
  • Must be able to pass background and driving record checks;
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Montana drivers' license;
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work with, and engage in, diverse working environments within and outside of the Department of Military Affairs;
  • Must be of sound judgment and good character, as indicated by reference and background checks.
