Job Description

The Advocacy and Government Relations Intern will be responsible for advancing the mission of Share Our Strength, to end childhood hunger in America, by supporting a portfolio of high-priority projects that strengthen the organization’s advocacy infrastructure and government relations capacity. Working closely with the Advocacy and Government Relations team, the intern will contribute meaningfully to efforts that expand our policy influence, deepen stakeholder relationships, and enhance the tools and resources that drive federal, state, and local public policy change.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct research on legislative priorities, political landscapes and relevant program data to inform advocacy materials.
  • Draft, edit, and proofread a range of written products including briefing books, one-pagers, and internal documents.
  • Support the design and implementation of systems for tracking and managing stakeholder relationships across multiple campaigns.
  • Participate in team meetings, strategy sessions, and relevant external calls or briefings.
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining shared team resources, files, and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Advocacy and Government Relations team and, as appropriate, with staff from other departments.
  • Completing and presenting a capstone project covering a relevant topic
  • Other tasks and day-to-day duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College Junior or Senior;
  • Organized, self-motivated and flexible;
  • Experience with political or issue campaigns, public policy change, and/or anti-hunger and anti-poverty advocacy;
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently;
  • Ability to work well with multiple and diverse groups of people;
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills required;
  • Excellent and proven research skills;
  • Interest in non-profits, fundraising, events, marketing, culinary industry, hunger, nutrition, sales, and/or children;
  • Available to work 20-30 hours per week;
  • Excellent computer skills, especially in Microsoft PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel.
