Diamondback Energy is an independent oil and natural gas company headquartered in Midland, Texas. We are focused on the acquisition, development, exploration, and exploitation of unconventional, onshore oil and natural gas reserves in the Permian Basin in West Texas.

The Geoscience Intern will own an assigned summer project while working directly with an integrated team of geoscientists and engineers on business functions such as subsurface characterization, target identification, appraisal drilling evaluation, and portfolio management.

Duration: Approximately 12 weeks (May - August 2027)

Job Responsibilities:

Include, but are not limited to:

  • Work on an assigned, individual geoscience project throughout the summer, culminating in a presentation of the completed project to Diamondback's executive team
  • Develop geoscience skills under the supervision and guidance of an assigned, experienced mentor
  • Work directly with teams across Geoscience and other disciplines to experience what working in an Oil & Gas Exploration and Production company is like
  • Evaluate upside potential on company-leased assets to determine whether economic inventory can be added through appraisal drilling, including target identification and geologic and economic justification
  • Support basin-wide technical assessment work - stratigraphic, structural, geochemical, geomechanical, and sedimentological - that can be leveraged directly into commercial drilling projects
  • Participate in on-site field visits to learn about field operations, including active drilling rigs and completions spreads
  • Participate in intern events and philanthropic endeavors that support the Midland-Odessa community

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in Geosciences, Geology, or a similar discipline
  • Must have strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills
  • Must be willing to work in Midland, TX for the duration of the internship
  • Must be returning to school for the Fall 2027 semester

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pursing a master's degree or higher in Geosciences, Geology, or a similar discipline
  • GPA of 3.20 or higher
  • Extracurricular achievements or prior work experience
