NFA is purpose-driven. We safeguard the integrity of the derivatives markets, protect investors, and ensure that our Members meet their regulatory obligations. We take pride in our work; maintain a conviction to do the right thing; empower each other; and support our community. Envision your career in a place where performing critical regulatory work within the financial industry is as significant as the passionate and talented individuals with whom you work.

When you join NFA as an Information Security Intern, you'll play a critical role in protecting the organization's infrastructure, systems and data through proactive security engineering and operational excellence.

Bring your analytical and innovative mindset to help strengthen NFA's security posture by advancing detection capabilities and supporting a resilient and secure environment.

Beginning your first day, you'll gain exceptional experiences, personalized learning and invaluable coaching and mentoring. We strive to develop our talented interns into future NFA and industry leaders, and our internship program is designed with that goal in mind.

What you'll do:

As an Information Security Intern, you will support security initiatives across the organization and advance modern strategies focused on zero trust principles, operational reliability, data protection, and proactive risk mitigation. These responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the Information Security team by monitoring, identifying, and investigating potential security threats and vulnerabilities
  • Assisting with the creation of automation for repetitive security tasks through coding and the use of AI tools
  • Gain hands-on exposure to security tools and technologies, including vulnerability management, endpoint security, identity and access management.
  • Support vulnerability assessments and remediation efforts by helping identify, document, track, and validate security findings
  • Research emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and security best practices and share relevant findings with the team.

We're committed to educating our interns and providing them with the skills necessary for success. Thanks to industry-specific training classes and our internal educational programs, an NFA internship will enable you to take away important industry knowledge and professional skills you can apply in your future career.

What we're looking for:

Team-oriented individuals thrive in this collaborative, hands-on role. We value unique perspectives and are looking for motivated applicants with a broad range of backgrounds and experiences. If you're eager to learn something new and support the integrity of the derivatives markets-and meet the qualifications below, we encourage you to apply to join our team as an Information Security Intern:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, or a related major, and sophomore standing or above
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in NFA's Chicago office full-time (beginning June 2027)
  • Basic understanding of information security and cybersecurity concepts
  • Familiarity with SIEM tools, cloud security, DLP, SASE, and security policies
  • General knowledge of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and common security best practices
  • Strong interest in learning about security monitoring, risk, and incident response
